Ok, I stumbled across something really weird. I was googling the definition of “economic coercion” and ended up at this site:
There was a link in blue, that you could click on to get the definition by the G7 nations for “economic coercion” like this:

So I clicked it, for the G7 definition &…

Up came the above 404 page. Ok, weird, but it allows you to click on “Go To Home Page” so I did & this is what pops up:

Holy Tinfoil Hat Fodder Batman!!! Wow…

(I’ve included the steps I went through above step-by-step because it sounds like bullshit even to myself if somebody else was telling me this, but you can try this yourself if you feel so inclined, & you can find the same route and outcome…)

Is that not very 1984-ish?

So yeah, who’s up at 6am Googling “Economic Coercion” anyway? I get it.

I was reading a story in the Globe&Mail here:
…& I had a fair idea of what the term meant, but I wanted an exact definition. That’s how I stumbled across the path in the OP here.

I figured it was gonna be a weird meeting in Quebec, with the G7 (so mostly EU members & Canada) & aside from Ukraine, the topic would inevitably circle around Trumps Tariffs & reactions to them, & there would be Marco Rubio interjecting Trump talking points, etc…

Etc…

Well Virtual Ron, we cant be pointing fingers. Canada is one of the worst for economic coercion. We are the Cayman Islands of the mining industry. We are the masters and we're dirty AF. Ive seen it first hand.

Canada is considered a "legal haven" for mining companies, with a significant portion of the world's mining corporations registered there, and Canadian companies hold a substantial amount of mining assets both domestically and internationally.

Here's a more detailed look:
Global Mining Presence:
Canada is home to a large number of mining companies, with a significant portion of the world's mining companies registered in the country.

Mining Assets:
Canadian mining and exploration companies held Canadian Mining Assets (CMAs) valued at $336.7 billion in 2023, with a significant portion of these assets located abroad.

International Operations:
In 2023, Canadian mining companies had assets in 95 foreign countries, with mining assets abroad accounting for about two-thirds of the total value of CMAs.

Economic Impact:
The Canadian mining sector employs a large workforce and contributes significantly to the Canadian economy.

So where's the economic coercion that we're guilty of? Being the "Cayman Islands" of the mining industry isn't really economic coercion. That's like saying having your commercial ships registered under a foreign flag is economic coercion.
As for who the masters are, China are the masters of economic coercion by a long shot. Wtf ya think the whole BRI is? Plus it has the added sting of being a debt trap.

I kinda wondered that myself. But then I got a big order for a dozen pizzas, so I couldn't follow up.

Are you fucking serious? By all means please explain how Canada DOESN'T protect the most corrupt industry on the planet. Governments are bought and sold on the TSX ffs.

First Quantum. There's a good place to start that is fairly recent.
