Ebola is coming to kill us all but it's nothing to worry about

Can't people be charged with reckless endangerment? Maybe I should say shouldn't people be charged with...

They could... but they won't be. Charging them or at least him with anything is an admission that the policy in place is not working.

A quarantine would have solved BOTH U.S ebola cases. Duncan and Spencer would have come down with symptoms before leaving W. Africa.

A quarenteen centre over on US soil would have also have worked. Given the uncertainty of containment and exposure in Africa, I think a centre you can control would be better.

But how can you really be sure they weren't exposed during the quarentine period and then come back and go bowling in New York City and expose hundreds?

As far as I read... there is no quarantine anywhere unless you actually have ebola. Am I mistaken?

You are correct. There is not but I maintain that a quarentine in a contaminated area would not be much of a quarentine. It would need to be in an area where you can insure the integrety of the quarenteen.

Maybe they should equip the quarantine area with a ocular rift, google glasses, PS4 and a 4k T.V. I'd happily quarantine myself with such items available.

ALL of africa would too...

I'm all for a travel ban. I cannot see a quarantine being set up here in the U.S without the ACLU descending upon it demanding it be opened... and getting their way too.

I'd heard that the fear of having a travel ban was that those who want to travel will seek alternate means of travel and it would be impossible to know where and who they had contact with.

Seemed legit.

Yes that is what some are saying. Thomas Duncan would have tried to get here another way. So he came and passed on ebola to two nurses.

Whereas a travel ban would have left him with no means except on foot to get to the U.S.

And Dr. Spencer came straight in (via Belgium)... landed in LaGuadia NYC... took a cab... took the subway... MAY have went to restaurants... DID go bowling... and he has ebola.

I'll take the travel ban.

The only reason why we don't have a travel ban is that it is not so politically correct. PC has once again trumped common sense and safety.

I guess if they put in a travel ban and someone DID travel about with ebola they could be charged...assuming they lived. Maybe fined...recoup some of the expenses.

I am doubting a guy like Thomas Duncan has the means to pay anything. The U.S Taxpayer foot the bill for all of his medical expenses. And Duncan lied on his questionnaire to get into the U.S. He never would have been allowed entry if he had told the truth that he had indeed been in contact with an ebola victim. So he lied to get here. The policy in place does not work.

I further doubt that Dr. Spencer will suffer any legal consequences if he survives.

Only a 30% chance he does.

So basically we'd have this problem solved..except humans.

Exactly. Humans.

A disturbing fact is two of the victims were health care professionals and choose to act irresponsibly. One by not self quarantining himself and the other by doing the same AND getting on a plane when she knew she wasn't feeling well and had a fever.

they should lose their designation.

Sadly, I have a sister who is/was a nurse. She is also a psychopath (truly, not an exaggeration). It's the perfect occupation for those who need to feel power over others and those types are hugely narcissistic.

Disclaimer: Not suggesting all or most of those in the medical field are pyschopaths. Just that those with certain predilictions choose certain fields of work. ie pedophiles: churches, schools, scouts, etc.
