you wouldn't be surprised to see a christmas card from a christian with a robin on the front (or chickadee or whatever u guys have over here). A rabbit is just a sign of spring, which happens to be easter time, it's also a sign of life (they're renowned for it). I don't think there's any fuss necessary.

It said "Happy Easter" though. Someone else already mentioned just chopping the words off. lol.

But the council president, Kathy Lantry said the issue was about separation of church and state and that “as government, we have a different responsibility about advancing the cause of religion which we are not going to do”.

Because we all remember the Biblical story where the Romans and the Pharisees have the Easter bunny nailed to a cross...

i still dont see any problem with associating bunnies with easter. As long as those who associate it with jesus's death and ressurection aren't directly insulted, and who could be insulted by a bunny?

I don't think anyone felt that the Easter/bunny association was a problem, it was the 'Easter' part of it that was deemed potentially offensive. If it was a Happy Spring poster witha bunny on it, no one would have cared, but, it is a reference to Christianity, thus, offensive to have up in a gov. building.

Ahh at least theres always St. Patricks Day. If they want to take that away they'll have to pry the wiskey bottle from my clutches, not an easy task.

On that note, anyone ever find it funny that everyone and their dog's all come out to celebrate their Irish roots on St. Patty's day? Seems to me I don't need a special occasion to celebrate my Irish heritage or getting drunk.
Right. I figgered it's because everyone is either Irish or want to be Irish. :D

There's a lotta offensive stuff in gov't buildings that don't even have anything to do with holidays or religions. Gov'ts themselves are offensive for the most part.

I agree with gilly, but on the subject of the easter thing, why the hell shouldn't the government celebrate easter? and eid and dewali and every other holiday that's represented by more than 5% of the population? why should anyone be offended by the celebration of anything?

Next thing you know, no public employee will be able to eat a Cadbury's egg in a public building.
And THAT is the way it should be! Those things are sticky!!! You get that ooey gooey good filling on a carpet, or a keyboard, and the next poor soul who comes along gets stuck to it so completely that they need some super adhesive disolver!

I say ban those eggs!

I don't need a special day either, I am IRISH but it is fun to watch everyone on St. Paddy's Day pretending they are Irish. They have a fun parade in Montreal and do you know it is the only, I repeat ONLY day of the year that you are allowed to drink alcoholic bevrages on the street. What a party!

If there was a hanging, bloody, moaning, skinny guy on a cross being put up, well...that should DEFINITLY be banned.

I dunno...it's a tough, sensitive subject. I agree with the idea of seperation of church and state...keep them as far away from eachother as possible...however...bunnies are happy creatures! We need more bunnies!
