It's a good thing McGuinty hired the guy to make an independent assessment.

I wonder if the PCs would do the same.

I was watching CBC's coverage of the event and they had Horwath (NDP) and the PC finance critic to say their piece. Horwath actually went into the budget details while the PC guy basically used it as an attempt to just slander McGuinty.

Kinda sounds like the PC PRbots in here. You guys have an existential problem to deal with.

Do Ontario a favour.

Do your jobs and start rationally critiquing the budget instead of reciting Sun headlines.

More proof that anything any government touches most often turns to crap. The Drummond report shows that Premier McGuillicitty is an awful manager of money and policy.
Terence Corcoran on the Drummond report | FP Comment | Financial Post

McSquinty and teh financial woes in Ontario is more of a reflection the liberal mindset than anything else.

Afterall, they are the party that pushes the concept of being entitled to their entitlements... They just don't know how to pay for it.

Case in point.

Conservatives would rather use this as a political point rather than actually assess the 342 budget recommendations made by Drummond.

This is why they lost the last election.

The only way to address so many flaws and errors is by replacing the broken piece (that being the liberals) and starting from scratch. There is no sense in standing by idly and suggesting alternatives when the answer is clearly to cut out the liberal cancer that created this disease.

Stupid.

We need to actually assess the recommendations and make changes because your request would mean spending more money and wasting time.

Here are some of the recommendations:

• Cancel the Ontario “clean air benefit,” the 10 per cent rebate on electricity bills that costs the treasury $1 billion.

• No raises for civil servants unless they find ways to do their jobs more cheaply. Any raises would come from the resulting savings.

• Boost the cap on primary school class sizes to 23 children from 20 children.

• Revamp full-day kindergarten — which the government is refusing to scrap even though Drummond urges that — by moving to a cheaper model with one teacher in the classroom and delaying full implementation from 2014-15 to 2017-18.

• Consider scrapping the 30 per cent Ontario tuition grant, a fee rebate for most college and undergraduate university students that is costing the treasury $423 million this year.

• Limit primary and secondary education spending hikes to 1 per cent a year with colleges and universities going up just 1.5 per cent annually.

• All areas of government spending beyond health, education, and social services should be slashed by 2.4 per cent per year through 2017-18.

• Put the 14 local health integration networks (LHINs) in charge of all 2,500 separately funded health agencies, including the province’s 151 hospital corporations, which would lead to amalgamation of some hospitals.

• Link the Ontario Drug Benefit program, which provides free prescription drugs for those over 65 and those on social assistance, to income to remove more affluent seniors from the rolls.

• Limit health-care spending increases, which have averaged 6.3 per cent annually for the past five years, to 2.5 per cent.

• Close one of the two casinos in Niagara Falls — likely the older Casino Niagara — and allow slot machines in gambling facilities beyond just casinos and racetracks.

• Order the Liquor Control Board of Ontario monopoly to open additional stores beyond the existing 620 outlets and use its purchasing power better to improve profits.

• Privatize the delivery of more public services but do not sell off the OLG, LCBO, Hydro One or Ontario Power Generation, which return hefty proceeds to the province.

Enjoy.

Retarded.

But then again, that's no surprise, is it now?

The fact that a 3rd party was brought in to 'identify' the problems speaks volumes... Didn't the notion of a $30 billion defcit get any alarm bells ringing earlier?

Again, it's people like you who create the problem by diverting the issue into politics. The PC hubris is the reason you lost the election, regardless of the financial situation. Too bad, so sad.

You won't.. evolve until you realize that.

Here's an infographic to help you with your mouthbreathing and unibrow.

That is waaayyy too funny, especially coming from guy the posts reams of useless threads, but ONLY when there is a partisan bent.

The PC hubris is the reason you lost the election, regardless of the financial situation.

The liberal promise of being 'entitled to your entitlements' is what landed Ontario in this mess... They won the election by bribing the electorate with their own money and now we see what the fallout is and yet, here you are as the proverbial captain of the Titanic calling for a Royal Commission to be engaged to determine why there is a gaping hole in the hull... Talk about closing the barn doors after the horses have left.

Now, if your goal is to 'fix' this problem on an internet forum, great, let's get started.

Scrap all of the socialist promises made and provide some kind of impetus to those sectors, industries or departments that actually generate revenues.

Put political pressure on those unions like the CAW that are so stubborn that companies like CAT are prepared to move 450 jobs to the USA.

Seeing how the cupboards are less than bare, provincial services will have to take a hair-cut regardless of how unpopular it will be... Which ones?,, Couldn't tell ya, but seeing how it will affect you directly, you'd better give some thought to what is on the block.

Lastly, time for you to finally understand that the money, cash flow and wealth of Ontario begins with the private sector and if you want all of the goodies as per your entitlements, you'd better be prepared to embrace the sector that can provide the money to back-stop it.

It's clear that none of you actually care to talk about the revenue and expenses of this report.

Wake me up when you grow a pair.

Another chart...

But where is the cost of solar power bondogle

Flossy can't bring that up on principle as it would contravene his hard-line stance as an ecophile... It would put him into a position wherein he wouldn't be able to justify the expense in the face of needing to cut costs.

So, for the time being, he'll quietly let that issue slip under the rug until such time that Ontario has provincial surpluses at which time he'll be squealing like a banshee for the costly and unsustainable implementation of more money-losing programs.

You dolt(ons), it's in the report:

It also recommends the province reduce the prices offered to green energy producers under the Feed-in-Tariff program and that it procure larger electrical power generation facilities through a request for proposal (RFP) process.

Keep it coming boys.

You're finally starting to become coherent.

Maybe if you put down the McSquinty conch and actually galvanize his supporters, you would get him to move. That only begins when people start talking about what to cut and what to increase.

For my part, I'll go on record as saying that a classroom size increase from 20-23 is worth it and so are some cost cutting measures that will make healthcare more efficient. You can combine that with a reasonable corporate tax rate increase.

Hey Flossy.. Thanks for all the reddies... It validates my point that you simply refuse to even consider what the root problem is... Easier to try and put a band-aid on a severed artery and pretend that the real problem is a nose bleed!

McGuinty is only concerned about getting elected. He'll promise to pull the rabbit out of his magic hat and the electorate will swallow it yet again.

Didn't even acknowledge my budget remarks and instead tried to divert this to politics, once again.

Sure I did Flossy, read up a few posts. I think it was the most recent reddie that you gave me.

Regardless, understanding your opinion on the private sector and ideas on renewable energy, I am reluctant to propose any real changes made by the report.

That said, how about this:

  1. Double (at least) the provincial taxes on gas.. Maybe to the point of $2.50 a liter.
  2. No more corporate welfare. In fact, time to recoup all the benefits they've had over the years. May I suggest to add a special corporate tax to target the manufacturing sector, oil/gas companies, mining and especially the financial services sector.
  3. Next, hammer the fat cats directly. Anyone (or household) that makes over $200,000 is assessed an additional 20% provincial income tax.
Thoughts?

Yup more corporate tax increases that will chase industries out of ontario....great...a 99er solution:smile:

More corporate tax increase?

The last corporate tax change in Ontario was a reduction.

But thanks for playing.

Raise it by 10% and you instantly save $1 Billion/year without harming anyone. Those corporations will not give up making a profit or providing you with shiny new iPads just because they have to pay a little bit more on taxes.

As we've shown on a Federal level, corporate tax cuts do not have a positive influence on the economy, and will not cause any harm at a reasonable level of 15%.

EDIT: So I just got an e-mail from the National Post about the infographic I posted above. I decided to send them my thanks for such a comprehensive depiction of the economic state of affairs. They've decided to implement the same model for the Federal Budget in a couple of months because it is getting so much praise.

Just goes to show a little co-operation goes a long way.

I look forward to the Feds now. Bring it on!!
