I wouldn't vote for Ford but at least I can admit he's in a comfortable lead right now.

And when you look at the competition, it's clear they're holding back because they know the effort is futile at the moment.

Can't speak for the others but framing it as doom for these politicians because of how you believe they've mishandled covid is a bit off the mark.

I voted for Ford.
He's handled this pandemic in a decent manner and easily better than any of the other parties or their leaders could have.
Doug Ford would easily be re-elected right now if a vote was called.
