Does protectionism reveal a person's character?

I remember a conversation years ago with someone complaining that we needed stricter Canadian-content rules because she watched too many US programmes.

I explained to her that I seldom watched TV and tended to read books from different countries. She was taken aback by finding herself in the position of the consumer of US programming defending Canadian-content laws against someone like me who saw little problem with open programming since I didn't consume that much US programming to begin with.

I wonder if we can say the same for open business markets. Though I might eat meat when it's offered to me, I always buy and prepare vegan. Consequently, I can barely remember the last time I ate at a McDonald's or a Tim Horton's for example. Most restaurants I eat at are privately or family owned. Same for the local Chinese supermarket I sometimes shop at. Consequently, I don't find that McDonald's or Tim Horton's, etc. really are a big concern for me. On the other hand, we can imagine that those who live off of a Mcdonald's diet might lament the lack of a Canadian junk-food alternative to choose from.

I love a good privately owned restaurant where the management knows what they are doing.

Over the years I worked in a lot of bars and I would always do some shifts in the kitchens to help out.
The free education has proved interesting and valuable, and I learned that there is much more to a positive eating experience then just the food.

You can't go wrong when you ask for all of your meals through a clown's mouth, eh?

I think there is a knowledge base that defies protectionism in certain things and food is a good example. You can get the knowledge and the ingredients for almost any possible dish from the internet.

Canadian junk food alternatives. That is food for thought. When I was young we had two channels of TV both junk, today it is a sea of junk. I can remember when we had a mixture of American and British junk, the British junk was my pick every time, Ah Pinewood Studios, The BBC, the Quees uses the bathroom today at Balomoral Castle, Monty Pythons,Does protectionism reveal a persons character? Yes if you protect with napalm and ten thousand bases circumpolar, protect and conquer, eh I don't understand the question,

The elite are dependents on the masses, guess who wins 50% of time here in the valley of the shadow of death, equelibrium, the oroboris

When we went from one channel to two...

Suddenly I had to protect myself from my kamikaze "I wanna watch the other channel" sister.
