You sure are energetic first thing in the morning.

I had a good nights sleep, lol.

Tell ya what, let's sit down on the couch and talk about the rules first.. I promise that I won't catch ya there (wink wink)

LOL. Yeah, yeah, sure. I strike you as the type who puts herself in compromising situations? ;)

Plus I have this thing about control. You catch me when I want you to catch me. :)

Divine Comedy is a book where Dante complains about all of the people that he doesn't like and assigns them a special place in hell with special punishments. Of course it is prejudiced.

Also, I do not believe that gherush92 is an Italian organization. If they were they would have contact information so that people could assign their mandatory charitable tax allotment to this organization. Further, they would have a displayed address in Italy. On top of that, I don't see a single "in fatti" or "allora", it definitely doesn't read like Italian.

The Divine Comedy is offensive and discriminatory? Well, of course it is. And so it the Bible, the Koran, the Book of Mormon, and most of Shakespeare's plays. So far as young people lacking the "filters" to understand its content I wonder what is meant by that. Surely so complex a work is not being presented to grade schoolers and my experience with high school students is that they are more than capable of understanding the complexities of such a work.

Art has been criticized since the beginning of civilization so what is new. They should not
remove books such as the classics from schools. In fact cleaning them up is wrong as
well, like Huck Finn etc. Kids have to be exposed to the real world and what is happening
and what happened before they were born. It should also be explained that the opinions
of one or two hundred years ago have changed over time its what evolving as a society is
all about. Put in context we get a better understanding of how human history has moved
along.

Human-rights organisation calls for Dante's 'racist, Islamophobic and antisemitic' epic poem to be removed from classrooms
Well, I suppose that was inevitable, the book burners will always be with us, but I'm a bit surprised it was an Italian organization that brought this up. There is of course the matter of what's age-appropriate, as other posters have noted, you wouldn't be introducing this work to a class of six-year olds, but the kind of mind that favours censorship will forever elude my comprehension. Nobody's understanding was ever improved by preventing them from finding out about something, and that's a hopeless undertaking anyway.

Jeeez. I have to do everything? Gherush92

Anyway, censorship like this is simply idiotic, IMO.

What's that? Certainly not incorporation information, and information about the tax based charitable donations.

Indeed, attempted censorship like this is idiotic, but it seems to be coming from a bunch of idiots.

I looked it up on the UN webpage in the end:

http://esango.un.org/civilsociety/displayMeeting.do?method=displayMeeting&profileCode=7623

They are considered special consultants (as opposed to general) so they are allowed to at attend meetings and send letters to ECOSOC, but they are not allowed to propose items for the meeting's agenda. They have an address in Rome, but I still don't have any incorporation information or the tax based information.

That's me following links. Here's another. Google Translate
If you emailed the editor heéshe may give you contact info for Gherush92

Um, most censorship originates from idiots.

I don't want to contact someone to answer my question, I shouldn't need to either. A legitimate charity in Italy would
a) have a primary site in Italian,
b) have information about incorporation (headquarter location, which status, etc.),
c) accept donations from Italians via income tax forms.

Actually, the most common censorship is accepted by everyone without question: perjury, libel, slander, laws regarding images of nudity, and so on.

Took me a minute but here ya go: United Nations: Civil Society Participation

Whether censorship is accepted by most people or not is irrelevant as to who originates it. Censorship is a product of nannyism. I think nannying people that don't really need nannying is stupid.
