Honestly, I don't need to buy the album to understand the context.

Yeah, but Steve spent all the money he made when he was really famous on drugs. Now that he doesn't have as much he spends his money on good works, so you should buy his album. Plus there's only one song on the album that's not good.

I guess that would be the point though, wouldn't it?

Yup...you should hear his ode to the FCC. I can't even type the title here without using asterisks. It makes the point too.
