I posted that for the educational value, not for your amusement.

Personally the Liberal plan is better than the Conservative plan.

Daycare/child care and Health care are two things that should stay public and out of the for profit priviate sector.

Day care isn't under a public system in Ontario.

...and I don't agree with Martin's plan, Jay. Still, the story you linked to supports federal and provincial funding of day care according to the 10 separate deals that Martin swung with the provinces.

I should also mention that I was at my Doctor's yesterday and we discussed the healthcare system. Even my doctor agrees that a blended public/private system would be a better system of delivering health care. He noted that most countries have a blended system, and that the American system was far superior at delivering healthcare in a timely fashion, but needs a way to incorporate the people without coverage.

That cements the debate for me. We need a blended system.

Of course your doctor feels that way, Jay...she stands to make more money.

The question here is which daycare plan is going to help your doctor's patients out more. Are they better off trying to find daycare for their kids for $4.00 a day, or having access to daycare that they can afford to put their kids in?

I know what the article says, and I posted it so people in Ontario would be familiar with the situation and what the government is doing.

I think it is folly for the PM to take money from Ontario so it can give it back. It is vote buying and outside of the jurisdiction of the Feds.

Liberals don't mind using children to garner votes though.

We shouldn't be debating these things in a federal election. It would be different if this was happening on a provincial level. But Martin doesn't care about jurisdiction, and his supporters don't know what the word means....so what is Harper supposed to do?

As far as I'm concerned these are the issues that drive our nation apart, not bring it together.

Money didn't come into the conversation until I brought up the fact that there are tones of people who can afford their own health care....His major concern was with delivery of health care, as he is a doctor. He alleviated some of my fears about the current system, but that is for another thread.

I'm under the impression that you can get daycare in Ontario from 350/month to 700/month.

I support Harpers plan to give money directly to parents who have children etc, to do with as they wish. I support lowering taxes and less government in general.

350x12=4200. Harper needs to find another $3000 a year per child in Canada for his plan to be valid then. His heart is two sizes too small and his funding is three sizes too small.

Funny quote, but as I'm sure you have gathered by now this isn't a federal issue; therefore we shouldn't be debating the issue in a federal election.

Why do I get the feeling the feds don't have much to do these days so they are eyeing up the provincial roles...or are they doing this to ensure the country breaks up?

No, parents need to come up with 250 a month if they want to have children and send them to daycare.

That depends on where your kids go, how old they are, how long they are in care, is it subsidized and weather you have a direct subsidy or not. Schoolaged programs are VERY expensive and the waiting lists are colassal in length. Harper's plan sucks and is so totally pointless, I don't understand why he even mentioned it, unless you're a woking mother making earning very little and putting most of your money towards childcare - but how many are in that situation?
