The hollywood offering for religious division this month is...
Da Vinci Code!!
Following a torrent of religious divisioning movies , Da Vinci is released. It is hailed as "shaking the foundations of mankind".
What hooey - I think it is just basic Hollywood promo.
If Christ had a kid with MMag, and the line survives even now, all it means is that Jesus wasn't anything other than a regular human. Same genes as the rest of us, reproduces just like the rest of us. Thats what I've believed for decades now, without being smoten by an angry god even once!
In fact, we don't really know if Jesus himself ever suggested he was "essentially different" from other men, as in the ONLY son of god" Jesus was a regular man, other than having a talent for persuading others to be good people. He said he was the son of god, but did not deny that "so are the rest of us".
So this movie only shakes the foundations of Catholics. And maybe a few other religions. They needed Jesus to be iconic, the only son of god, special, not regular. Otherwise their magical world would not seem so magical, and life is just regular humans trying to survive, and doing it by themselves just fine thank you god we don't need you. That would not get many converts or scare anyone enough to join up.
So this movie is not shaking the foundations of humanity, a humanity that cannot even agree on one god, which sort of indicates that NONE of the religions got it right, and that therefore , all gods are most likely figments of imaginations.
Civilisations with no belief in god did not perish, so it is not an essential belief.
The movie would not hold much interest if Jesus were assumed to be a regular man. And not much interest to anyone other than Catholics and other religions who believe in Jesus as the only son of god, but they are mostly saying "don't go see it". Oddly, it will get the highest attendance of any movie this weekend.
