Its a hysterical over-reaction to an election ploy. The Tories are trying to raise their profile in ridings they don't have a sitting MP.

Sorry I had to explain it to you. I didn't realize you had such tender sensibilities when you are being so self-righteously indignant at the word "hysteria" when others are tossing around the terms "fascist," "Nazi" and "Hitler." No doubt you wouldn't get particularly upset when describing "Taliban" Jack as a "communist."

It's a practice that prevents the local MP from performing his/her job and is undemocratic. Just like those cops trying to start a riot the other day, fascism is fascism.

Oh Gawd! Another of those neanderthal rabid rights who liken anything remotely socialist in nature to communism. Pu-leeze, the cold war is over - for now....

Definition of juxtaposition.

You're right. Using donations to set themselves up as their own lobby group certainly WILL raise their profile in ridings they don't have a sitting MP.

Its an abuse of power. If that's what they're doing, of course. Depends on the service.

Sorry I had to explain it to you.

Is the government paying for it?

If not, what's the difference than having a nominee in the riding?

If this was the Liberals doing this you'd be sreaming your tory blue tits off and you know it.

lol

The Liberals would just appoint their hacks to a government position in the riding, and business would go through that person. That's how its usually done.

And I am a slim male. I do not have mammary glands.

It's a practice that prevents the local MP from performing his/her job and is undemocratic. Just like those cops trying to start a riot the other day, fascism is fascism.

And exaggeration is exaggeration.

edit-Just heard another clip from Cullen who is considering taking the matter to the federal ethics commisioner so this should get a higher profile.

Judging by what Harris has to say its only a matter of time. Cullen would be remiss if he dropped it.

should be interesting

Last I checked nominees don't have the authority to carry files and leverage position in the halls of power. That's what lobbyists do. and they're supposed to register as such.

Like I already said, it depends on what services they're offering.

I understand that some may find this to be a little sleazy. But hey, wouldn't it be great to have people from all the parties looking out for you, just in case your elected member is as useless as tits on a toro? Remember Tom Wappel,a liberal, who refused to help a constituent because he voted conservative.Chretien defended Wappel's move.

True - there are buttholes in every walk of life. That's where the Press is a friend. Somebody forgot to let Wappel know that constituency work is supposed to be non-partisan. I got a lot of help from the office of my MLA - one Micheal D Harris, Nipissing - in several issues with the province. Harris certainly knew who I was - and my political views.

Misuse of party funds is sort of frowned upon ain't it?

Wolf

oh. I'm sure their contributors won't mind. Anything that gets them a step closer to one party rule is a step in the right direction for them.

But it WOULD turn them into professionals. Its called influence peddling.

If they are being paid by the conservative party, that is legal. If they are getting money from something like the sponsorship fund(remember that) then they are probably closet liberals.

It doesn't PREVENT the local MP from doing his/her/its job. Get real. Stop and think.

Like hell it doesn't, conservative MP Harris from here in Prince George-Cariboo North is setting up a goto man in another MPs riding and telling people to go through his office when dealing with the government. Since when does Harris have any authority in Skeena-Bulkly Valley. If the people there wanted a conservative MP then they would have elected one. It's poaching votes for the conservatives.

This is influence peddling pure and simple, people are being told if they support the conservatives they'll get better access to the government. It's probably not true anyway considering that Harper doesn't listen to anyone anway. It's a defacto replacement of an oppositition MP by the sitting government. People are being told they don't need opposition MPs, the government will decide who represents them. It's great in a dictatorship, but makes running a democracy pretty hard. Once again what the hell happened to making government more accountable, that won't happen if we put all our eggs in one basket. This is just one more bit of evidence that Harper NEVER intended to do what he promised when he brought the last government down. All the conservative rhetoric about the Liberals has been a smokescreen so they could make their own run at absolute power.

At the very least it's undemocratic which is par for the course for Harper:

1. Emerson- slimey backroom deal that cancelled out the votes of thousands days after election.
2. Wheat Board- The Supreme Court has ruled the PMO doesn't have the authority to make changes this significant.
3. Softwood Lumber- Harper tells the Canadian Industry he won't support them unless they agree to his deal which sees $1 billion Canadian go to the White House and US Lumber Lobby. Which they can now use to fight us in court.
4. Alantic Accord- Knifes the Maritime Provinces in the back so he can pay for buying Quebec off.
5. Lies to Parliment about knowing what's happening to prisoners turned over to a government with a long history of torture.
6. Montebello- Just the other day we've seen just how much respect this government has for citizens right to protest its policies.

Stop and think???? Open your ****ing eyes.

You quoted this from the Liberal Party handbook.

This coming from someone with Mulroneys picture for an avatar, that's rich.

He may have abandoned ship like the rat he is but Campbells near complete defeat was as much his as hers. The conservatives wrote the book on sleaze in the 1980s.
