I would be able to have a Scottish passport because I'm three-eighths Scottish.

I suppose anyone who would be born in England with at least one parent who is Scottish would also be able to hold a Scottish passport.

It's like the television historian Dan Snow. His British father is BBC television journalist Peter Snow, and his Canadian mother is Ann MacMillan, Managing Editor of CBC London Bureau. So Dan (who is also the great-great-grandson of Britain's WWI PM David Lloyd George) has both a British and a Canadian passport.

Nothing new here BL. I have a British EU passport and a Canadian passport. Anyone born in Britain can get a British passport no matter where else they are a citizen.

Maybe you are just unaware of what is required to become a citizen, maybe you are just an ignoramous. I'm not sure but in case it is the former let me explain the process.

You must first apply for and be awarded 'landed immigrant' status. This requires you either have a job to go to or you have immediate family with a job who will sponsor you so as not to burden the social safety net further. After a period of 5 years as a landed immigrant you may then apply for citizenship. You must prove you have contributed to this country through payment of taxes, have a job or a sponsor, pass a written test on Canada including it's history, geography and govt. and then you must swear an oath that you will do your best in all civic duties and obligations.

This isn't some willy-nilly game of handing out citizenship to anyone who can get here. There are some exceptions for people claiming asylum but the still have to wait to get full citizenship. While I agree with you on stronger protectionist commercial laws and tariffs you are obviously delusional about how citizenship is conferred and what is required to even apply. BTW, our current govt is introducing legislation requiring all new immigrants be fluent in reading, writing and speaking one of the official languages which is going to put another barrier on citizenship and I agree with the requirement.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the point. The point i was making is the existence of DUAL citizenship robs that civil state of its integrity and purpose. I stated nothing of how citizenship in conferrred. The existence of Dual Citizenship also with out a doubt contributes to the concealment of world income from Canadian taxes. You can put all the legal requirements on citizenship that you want, but if it is not exclusive, it completely undermines the intent.

What bullsh-t are you trying to spew now. I have dual citizenship and the only way I could avoid Canadian taxes is if I committed fraud. I cannot earn money in Canada without paying tax. I can earn money in the UK without paying Canadian taxes only because as a British citizen I have to pay taxes there. The only real way to avoid taxes in Canada is to have your money in a tax haven and that doesn't require dual citizenship.

Your are actually required to pay Canadian tax on your British income.. pro-rated to the amount of time you spent in Canada during the taxation year. Hence you get into the contradiction in conditions of having more than one citizenship. It becomes a matter of what suits you best.. and demands loyalty to neither nationality.

I can split the tax if I want. I can also pay all the tax in Britain or all the tax in Canada. It really doesn't matter as I will pay taxes one way or the other.

Now I am loyal to Canada first but maintain my British citizenship because I have a lot of family there and it is easier to travel in Europe with the EU passport and of course I was born there so I have a birthright to that citizenship. Where I have absolutely no loyalty either way is to the taxman.
