U.S. admits mistakenly holding German as terror suspect

A teaser:

BERLIN – German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today that the United States has admitted making a mistake in the case of a German national who claimed he was wrongfully imprisoned by the CIA.

Merkel spoke during a press conference with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who refused to discuss specifics with reporters. The two women leaders' first meeting was dominated by questions about U.S. terrorism policies, including the five-month detention of Lebanese-born Khaled al-Masri and reports of secret CIA prisons and potentially illegal use of European airports and airspace to transport terror suspects.

"The American administration is not denying" it erred in the case of al-Masri, Merkel said through a translator.

Merkel welcomed that admission and added that she is grateful for Rice's assurances that the United States conducts anti-terror operations legally and without the use of torture.[/teaser]

Man she was not kidding that she wanted Germany to have closer relations with the US, she seems to of bought the bushit quite easily.

The US seems to of rounded up many people on the vague notion they may be a terrorist. I wonder how many innocent people have been tortured, terrorized and unlawfully detained by the Bush crime family? And that Merkel buys the US bs right up.

Sounds like the Bush Crime Family through the CIA and other agencies are on a witch hunt and "mistakes" are a form of collateral damage. Human rights be dammed in this era of the Bush Crime Family.

not sure she (German Chancellor) bought the bill of goods that rice tried to sell as things were apparently VERY TENSE between them. She is also new in the game......so is being a tad cautious. But I could be wrong.... tough call.

but I think by now it is rather transparent to everyone on this planet that the US has a serious "human rights" problem.........better known as "torture".

sure can't wait for them hypocrits in washington to berate another nation for torture or human rights issues..... as that would and does make them a laughing stalk.

Romania, Poland questioned over prisons

A teaser:

BUCHAREST, Romania — Romania and Poland, stalwart allies in the U.S.-led global war on terror, came under increasing fire Tuesday amid widening reports that they hosted secret CIA prisons where top al-Qaida suspects were interrogated.

Top leaders in both countries denied it, but lawmakers in Romania called for a parliamentary investigation. The stakes are high: Although they have curried favor with the U.S., any proof of complicity could leave the former communist nations isolated and scorned in a Europe demanding a full accounting from Washington, and threaten Romania's drive to join the European Union in 2007[/teaser]

I hope the investigation gets to the truth and I hope for Romania's and Polands sake they are not helping the US in crimes against humanity, torture etc. Poland should know better, "W" aint that much diferent than Hitler.

what is really scary.......is that the US seems to move /relocate these prisons at will. Rice comes to Europe......and the CIA moves the prisons to N.Africa. Who can keep up with the dirty shenanigans anymore. One has to listen very hard to what is said..... as it is not what it might appear either.

(ya know......I can hardly believe what is taking place under the endorsement of the currrent US of Criminals. with each ugly revelation........one uncovers an uglier side of america that maybe has been there all along......but only now has released its toxicity for the world to see. And they don't care.... It is like they are "entitled " to do as they wish, to whom they wish and when they wish.) It is heartbreaking.-----but maybe this is what happens in a culture that is brought up on violence. (guns, miltary being the prominent images from early childhood)

Space photos sought for inquiry into 'CIA prisons'

A teaser:

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Europe's leading human rights watchdog group said Wednesday it hopes to be able to see satellite images of sites in Romania and Poland as part of its investigation into alleged secret CIA prisons and flights in Europe.

A top Council of Europe official said the body had been granted permission to look at images in the archives of the European Union's main satellite center, as well as log books held by the European Union's air safety organization.

"They are willing to give us the information we need, but they need the permission of the national authorities," Rene van der Linden, chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, told The Associated Press. He said all 25 EU nations would have to give permission for such a step. [end teaser]

I do not know what to say other than it appears they are investigating this matter seriously.

I sure HOPE so . At the point....that I don't care what is revealed as long as the truths are exposed ....

It is so much easier to deal with real truths .......no matter how ugly........than perpetual lies , spin and secrecy.

Bush calls new abuse case 'unacceptable

Yeah sure he does

A teaser:

WASHINGTON -- President Bush said Monday that Iraqi prisoners held in secret detention centers apparently were beaten and tortured.

"This conduct is unacceptable," Bush said in a speech in Philadelphia. "Those who committed these crimes must be held to account."

The president's remarks followed the discovery of a second detention center in Iraq containing hundreds of prisoners in cramped quarters and the apparent abuse of some of them.

Bush said that various Iraqi groups were brutally oppressed under deposed President Saddam Hussein's regime. "For some," he said, "there is a temptation to take justice into their own hands."

He said most of the prisoners that have been recently discovered were Sunni Arab men, some of whom "have appeared to have been beaten and tortured."[/end of teaser]

CIA may have held prisoners illegally: report

A teaser:

Allegations that the CIA illegally abducted and transported terror suspects across European borders are credible, a Swiss investigator has claimed.

"Legal proceedings in progress in certain countries seemed to indicate that individuals had been abducted and transferred to other countries without respect for any legal standards," Senator Dick Marty said in a written report.

Marty is investigating the CIA's reported transfers of prisoners through European airports to secret detention centres, actions that would breach the continent's human rights principles. [/end of teaser]

No surprise here.

That article has no comprehension of
what John McCain is trying to do.

None.

That article has no comprehension what it takes
to make a change for the better, in a world that
loves the sound bite, loves the great talk, but has
too little understanding what that great talker
does afterwards to make what he says happen.

McCain is quite honorably trying to effect a
change in American policy, and this article has
all the understanding of a juvenile who has no idea
how to make change happen.

I'm sorry, for the overt outrage, but since every body
else seems to have that liberty here and well they should
towards Bush's bungling, an article like that attacks
the one guy who could unite us all.

jim......how about YOU tell us what McCain is trying to do. Not every article is going to see it YOUR way.......etc etc. This is why it is so imperative to have as many perceptions as possible.

( I LIKE McCain too. .......one of the saner people on their. Don't agree with all his positions........but he makes good sense . and is RATIONAL. )

Of course, not every article is going to see it MY way.

But I had to respond to your," a tad devious, don't cha think?" Such a remark almost implies credibility to
that article.

That article was written by an outsider who doesn't
know what it takes to make things right.

Can you imagine what it takes to move from
grandstanding in public to ACTUALLY change Bush
policy ? I imagine you do with all of your posts outraged
by what the Bush administration says and does.

This man has hobbled together a counter force
to the Bush mindset. He has gotten the Senate on
his side, and he's having quite an influence on the
House on this matter of Torture.

But he's also atypical, maverick in his approach
about helping the country of Iraq
having a freakin' chance.

oh jimmy,jimmy.......it is too nice a day to get into splitting hairs .........and particularly about something we have no control over. I just thought the article presented a different view.....one that even I ( who is suspicious of most things US Regime--gee, I bet THAT is a surprise  :) ) had not thought of.

Sure got your gonads in an uproar. No need to get so defensive about McCain. He is a solid character who can handle himself very astutely. and is probably one of the most politically savvy blokes around.
