Electronic vote counting is clearly a mistake, as the results can be altered so easily. Our Canadian federal elections are still decided with paper ballots, box ticked off, folded and put into a ballot box with witnesses from all parties present. The ballots are then counted by a multi-party group, together (and the inevitable box of Tim Hortons donuts watching). It's much harder to cheat, fudge the results with so many eyes watching and it is generally far more transparent. No dangling, flipping chads, either.
If they try to sell you "on-line" balloting, as they have threatened to do, sick the mastiffs on them for the sake of our democracy. You will never see an honest election, again.
