Channeling Freeland now…In their final ad drop of the election campaign, the Liberals plan to court progressive NDP and Green party voters.

The one-minute ad — which is set to be released Thursday but was obtained by CTV’s Power Play on Wednesday — features leader Mark Carney sharing an anecdote from a teacher he met on the campaign trail, who says some of her elementary-school-aged students are worried about the ongoing trade war and U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to Canadian sovereignty.

Chrystia Freeland named new head of Rhodes Trust
Herself a Rhodes Scholar, Freeland is set to take the new position at Oxford University next July

Chrystia Freeland
Chrystia Freeland has been appointed the next Warden of Rhodes House and CEO of the Rhodes Trust, returning to Oxford in 2026 to lead the global scholarship organization.
OTTAWA — Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland — who was instrumental in the downfall of former prime minister Justin Trudeau — is set to helm a prestigious English educational trust.

Freeland is set to become the next Warden of Rhodes House and CEO of the Rhodes Trust — the well-known educational charity responsible for awarding the Rhodes Scholarship, an undergraduate fellowship for the University of Oxford in the U.K.

“It is an honour and privilege to return to Oxford as Warden of Rhodes House and CEO of the Rhodes Trust,” Freeland said in a statement.

“Having personally benefitted from a Rhodes Scholarship, I know how deeply transformative and influential it can be on the lives and futures of our Scholars.”

Freeland, herself a Rhodes Scholar, earned a master’s degree in Slavonic studies from Oxford in 1993.

She’ll replace current interim warden Sir Rick Trainor, who assumed the role earlier this year until a permanent candidate was found.

The Toronto Sun reached out to Freeland for comment and to clarify her political future with the Mark Carney Liberals. The PMO had no comment.

When will she step down as MP?
With her position set to begin next July, there’s been no indication of when she’ll step down, or when a byelection will be held in her downtown Toronto riding of University—Rosedale.

Freeland, originally from Peace River, Alta., entered federal politics in a November 2013 byelection win after the resignation of former Ontario premier and interim federal Liberal leader Bob Rae — a seat she held through four consecutive elections.

Upon the Liberals forming government in 2015, Freeland was appointed to cabinet and named International Trade minister.

Cabinet resignation brought down Trudeau
A polarizing figure in Canadian politics, she would later serve as Foreign minister, minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, and in 2020 would succeed Bill Morneau as Finance minister — a position she’d hold until her bombshell Dec. 16, 2024 resignation from cabinet just hours before she was to table her government’s Fall Economic Statement.

That act would trigger a series of events that would eventually lead to the resignation of Trudeau earlier this year, and Freeland to launch an ultimately unsuccessful bid to succeed him as party leader and prime minister, losing to Mark Carney.

She was named minister of Transport and Internal Trade in March, but on Sept. 16 she announced she would again resign from cabinet and would not seek re-election.

Upon her resignation, Carney named Freeland “Canadian Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.”

Chrystia Freeland to resign as Toronto MP after accepting position advising Ukraine's government

Freeland, the MP for University—Rosedale, said she would also step down from her position as the Canadian government's special representative on Ukraine reconstruction.

Chrystia Freeland announced Monday she will resign as a Toronto MP after accepting a post as an economic adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
I’ve mentioned it elsewhere on the forum within the last day or so that, I will not forget and neither should anyone else that can legally vote in Canada….Freeland having the distinction of being the first politician cited by Twitter or X or whatever it’s called now….For manipulated media. She broke the glass ceiling on that one.
Well Ukraine, you are welcome to her.
While Freeland rightly left cabinet due to the disloyalty shown to her by Trudeau, it does not absolve her poor record as finance minister.

Had Freeland actually delivered the fall economic statement (FES) to the House of Commons, she would have been forced to present a deficit just short of $62 billion.
Freeland, the MP for University—Rosedale, said she would also step down as the Canadian government’s special representative on Ukraine reconstruction, a post she accepted when she left Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet in September.
Only a week ago she was walking the walk & talking the talk, willing to throw the entire nation of Canada under the bus….”Mister Speeeeeaker….let me be peeerfecty clear…” & then out would come condescending bullshit…& this 60.9 BILLION Dollar deficit didn’t happen this week….It’s LAST YEARS deficit, & she knew all about it. It happened under her watch & she said nothing.
The current Canadian prime minister thanked Freeland for her service and said he was glad she was taking on the important work for Ukraine.

Are you high? Where do you think AshkeNazis came from? Botswana?
Estimates for the Jewish population in Kyiv vary, but recent figures suggest around 40,000 to 45,000 (so maybe as much as 1.5% of that population), and there are approximately 100 Jews in Botswana.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Monday that he appointed former finance minister Chrystia Freeland as an economic advisor based on her “extensive experience in attracting investment and implementing economic transformations.”
During her time in finance, it would be more accurate to say that Freeland made investments, rather than attracting them — at a high cost to taxpayers. Many of these “investments” were in electric vehicle battery plants in Ontario and Quebec, which were attracted to Canada by promising $52.5 billion to 13 foreign companies, at a whopping total of $4 million per job.
The current Canadian prime minister thanked Freeland for her service and said he was glad she was taking on the important work for Ukraine.
Since 2022, Canada has committed over $23.5 billion to help support Ukraine through economic, military, humanitarian, development, security, stabilization and immigration assistance. This must be the investment-securing expertise Zelenskyy is referring to.
If Freeland can play a key role in Ukrainian reconstruction, it would beat anything she did in Ottawa.
