They get our resources and we get buried in cheap, plastic chachkas. What could be better?

Our resources? The number export from North America to China is...wait for it....are you ready?

Our garbage.

Those chachkis started out in Canada as milk jugs, steel and aluminum cans, glass jars and cardboard.

Trudeau is out of his mind. A babbling drooling fool. Hopefully a Trump victory will put him on notice that the clock in winding down on his own administration.. which is a faint last gasp of the failed globalist, Free Market agenda of the 70s.. and is on the defensive throughout the West. TPP is going down.. FT with China won't even get off the launch pad.

Republicans and Liberals have gotten along famously.

The dirty sh-t Obama flung at Canada has been overwhelming.

Afghanistan?

Just look at Mexico.

Are you saying free trade did not benefit Mexico?

Do you think Mexico would have had the chance to benefit from free trade had Brian Mulroney insisted that Mexico pay a 15/hour minimum wage before we agree to free trade? That seems to be the tenet of "fair trade."

A poorer country simply cannot compete under so-called "fair trade." Much of the population does not even have the necessary education in the initial stages of free trade. In the case of fair trade, the poorer country has no choice but to turn the deal down and the wealthier country can tap itself on the back and say it protected jobs for the poor. Pure hog wash.

There's no hogwash about it.

My point was simply that there is no onus to make any concessions whatsoever with free trade.

With fair trade you can at least have two countries agree to some terms beyond the simple economics of the items being traded.

In fact, there is nothing stopping the 'richer' country from sweetening the deal if the poorer country agreed to increase wages by a mutually agreed amount.

Also

Libertarians are dumb.

Who said I'm a libertarian? That I admire some libertarian ideas does not make me a libertarian per se.

If you do not want to trade with China, then what about a common labour market at least. Chinese who come to Canada would still need to respect Canadian labour laws, no?

As for free trade, what would be your agument gainst free trade between self-employed sole traders and worker cooperatives at least? A person can't really abuse itself and a worker cooperative can't really abuse its workers, can they?

What should we do about Chinese Christian entrepreneurs who want to work in or do business with Canada?
