China unveils $16 million gold and jade statue of Mao

A gold and jade statue of Mao Zedong worth more than $16 million was unveiled Friday, in the latest example of Communist China’s indecision over how to commemorate its founding father’s 120th anniversary.

The statue, 80 cm (32 inches) tall but weighing more than 50 kilograms, was put on display in the southern boom town of Shenzhen, China National Radio (CNR) reported.

The city was little more than a fishing village a few decades ago, and its booming prosperity epitomises China’s transformation since the days of Mao’s command economy.

The figure depicts the founder of the People’s Republic of China reclining in a chair, legs crossed.

In some ways it's too bad Mao didn't die in October 1949 after the Nationalists were driven from the Mainland. His death at that time would have spared the country from the Great Famine, the "Let A Hundred Flowers Blossm" campaign that destroyed the Chinese Intelligentsia, and the Cultural Revolution.

I have a question about WW2,. Why USA support the evil Stalin to win the civilized Germany? Just because of jewish concentration camps of Germany? But more concention camps made by Stalin in USSR land and more people dead as slaves in gulag, and why USSR was friends of USA?

If the goal of WW2 was liberating the people under NAZI,why USA didnot liberate the people under USSR? the people under NAZI were more valuable than under USSR?
