Child killer Ian Huntley has almost been killed in prison by a fellow inmate.

Huntley, 52, was bludgeoned around the head with a spiked metal pole with the attacker yelling afterwards "I’ve done it, I’ve done it. I’ve killed him, I’ve killed him."

Inmates cheered and applauded as the triple killer attempted to murder the child killer.

Huntley was left unconscious with his head "split in two."

It's not the first time he's been attacked in prison. He's had boiling water poured on him in the past. For some reason fellow inmates don't really like child killers.

In 2002, in a crime which shocked Britain, Huntley was found guilty of murdering 10-year-old Jessica Chapman and her friend Holly Wells, Manchester United fans, in the village of Soham, Cambridgeshire.

For the horrific crime he was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years with no possibility of parole and isn't eligible for parole until 2042. Will be survive until then?

Ian Huntley's mother: "Part of me wishes he would die this time"

Even his own mother wishes he was dead

Huntley in critical condition in hospital

Huntley is in a critical condition at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary under armed guard.

He is being treated for massive brain injuries inflicted upon him by a triple murderer from Coventry at HMP Frankland in County Durham.

Huntley's condition is "touch-and-go".

Durham Constabulary said a suspect, a male prisoner in his 40s, had been identified following the attack, which took place in a prison workshop.

Inmates cheered as the prisoner bludgeoned the killer of two little girls around the head with a spiked metal pole.

Ian Huntley's daughter, Samantha Bryan, 27, tells The Sun on Sunday newspaper that she is "glad" her father is fighting for his life in hospital after being brutally attacked in prison and said "There's a special place in Hell waiting for him".

Huntley murdered 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire, in 2002 when his daughter Samantha was 4-years-old...

Hell, I'd kill him just for his obvious douchebaggery.

Imagine being that poor young lady. She was 14 when she went online on a school computer for a school project and discovered that she's Huntley's daughter. Imagine being 14 and suddenly discovering that your father is a notorious child killer.

Huntley's life support machine about to be switched off

Behind Bars TV, a former prisoner and now a YouTuber, has said that Huntley's mother made a 100-mile trip to see her son at the Newcastle hospital who has been battered around the head so violently he is unrecognisable.

The family look set to order the switching off of Huntley's life support machine, finally giving him the death sentence for his 2002 murder of two little girls ..

Breaking News: Huntley's life support machine has been switched off

Ian Huntley's life support machine has been switched off and he is hours away from death.

In 2002 Huntley murdered 10 years olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman and was condemned to a minimum of 40 years without parole. However, last week he was battered about the head by a fellow inmate with a metal spike which is about to cause Huntley's imminent death.

Best friends and Manchester United fans Holly and Jessica were murdered by their school caretaker Huntley in Soham, Cambridgeshire, hours after they had posed for a photo in their Man Utd shirts.

For murdering two children he's been given the death penalty...

Around the same day that Huntley has effectively been declared dead, a man has been given life with no possibility of parole for murdering a woman and her three children. When he's also killed in prison I'll let you know right here.

Ian Huntley's daughter says 'flush his ashes down the toilet' as monster 'isn't worth a funeral'

Ian Huntley’s daughter has told of her relief over the Soham monster’s death and said: “We should flush his ashes down the toilet.”

Samantha Bryan, 27, believes the double child killer does not deserve a funeral.

Huntley died yesterday, nine days after a brutal beating at HMP Frankland, Co Durham, which crushed his skull and left him in a coma.

Ian Huntley's grim funeral options revealed by detective amid 'serious' concerns

Prison sources claim that Huntley was working in waste management with other lags when he was targeted. The brutal attack allegedly happened in Wing A, an area of HMP Frankland reserved for inmates who are kept separate from the general prison population for their own protection.

For Huntley, who suffered a spate of violent attacks during his 23 years inside, even a maximum security facility wasn't enough to shield him from a gruesome fate. As the killer bent down to tie some string on a recycling crate, his attacker took his moment, smashing him in the head with a metal pole up to 15 times. He was left in a pool of blood after his head was split open.

Triple killer Anthony Russell, 43, has been widely named as the prime suspect, with reports suggesting he unleashed fury following a row in a workshop. Other lags are said to have cheered as Russell was led away in handcuffs shouting: "I've done it, I've done it. I've killed him, I've killed him."

Nusrit Mehab, a former Superintendent with the Metropolitan Police and a senior lecturer in criminology and criminal justice, tells the Mirror that what happens to Huntley's remains all depends on what he declared before his death...
