See, I've never found violence that damaging to kids either. I guess it depends on your view of damaged, I see a kid who cannot stomach the sight of violence (and grows up to be such an adult) to have massive damage and be ill prepared to deal with the world at large.

When was the last time the US shut down a TV station for being critical of the government, Karrie?

I wasn't aware that Chavez had done that. I was talking in context of banning the Simpsons as compared to the many rules regarding censorship in North America.

That all depends on the broadcast medium (OTA vs cable/satellite). If it is produced by NBC, CBS, ABC (Major Networks), they are subject to FCC regulation, unlike cable and satellite which are not (A&E etc)

Do you think the US interferes less in what is shown and when on tv than Chavez has?

How can you take the truth as an insult when Buckaroos don't deserve the attention that they are getting? Do you accept them as war mongers for profit or a place to try out their new "military toys" at the expense of lives.

If I insulted you , I apologize.
Sincerely Jo

ROFLMAO, when was the last time the US had a 'station' that was critical of the commander-in-chief?

At least get your facts straight, the stations pulled the show, it may even be shown at a different time-slot. (which it is, in the evening, 2nd link)

How many Canadian/US stations show it at 11AM, a time slot usually meant for pre-schoolers?

BTW, the station that was refused a renewal of their broadcast license was showing soap re-runs when there was events going on in the streets so STFU

Obviously you have been living in a cave MHZ, there is critique of the US president all the time, from pretty much all US broadcasters besides Fox.

Also, the stations didn't pull the show, they were forced to. 8O

Quite a few channels broadcast it at that time here actually. I can watch the Simpsons 24/7 if I so feel inclined, via teletoon, comedy network etc. I suppose you would approve of having the Simpsons removed from the 3-5pm slots as well as that is another time where children may be able to watch TV unattended.

you didn't insult me johai. my reference to insult was that in your thread on solving homelessness, where you insulted wolf by calling him pathetic. It puts people off of conversation, myself especially.

Simpsons during the day corrupting our kids?

You want to corrupt children's minds, throw Robot Chicken on at 10am and see what education they get from that show.

I don't see much in The Simpsons which would offend Chavez or go against their ways per-say. If anything the show expresses a lower mentality culture (The show, not the country they're in) mostly American based comedy and situations which most might not even relate to all that well, and focuses primarily on the typical disfunctional family of the culture in which it entertains.

Perhaps all he wants is just to have shows on that have content and some level of education to it. Simpsons, although I enjoy the show, is funny and all that..... but there's very little in education compared to other shows such as Baywatch mentioned in Post 1.

Baywatch might be a bunch of men and women not wearing much and bouncing around on the beach, but from my memory as a kid, it still had morals, lessons, trials and problems people had to deal with in it...... cheesy as hell mind you, but they were there none the less. Much more so then The Simpsons.

There are kids in my son's and daughter's classes who watch Robot Chicken, because it comes on Teletoon East at about 9PM our time, when mom and dad still haven't bothered to put Timmy and Sue to bed, and aren't watching what they're watching. Teletoon's a cartoon channel, so it must be fine, right? Right?

You are right Karrie. Cartoons targeted at a mature audience should be banned henceforth due to cartoons historically being created for children and there is nothing worse then a confused child.

If the Taliban can have broadband in caves why wouldn't I have it also?
That he and his cohorts have not been hung for treason would indicate that it is a lack-luster attempt. What % of the US 'masses' still think Saddam was involved in 911?

Also, the stations didn't pull the show, they were forced to. 8O
So the BBC is spreading lies?
"The popular US cartoon about the yellow dysfunctional family was branded "inappropriate" and pulled by the country's television authorities."

And put in a more appropriate time-slot, how many times does that point need to be explained to you?

And you probably do, regularly, even the re-runs as you may not grasp the 'whole message' the first time around.
Well go ahead and post some links that show that, a search of 'Shaw' brings up an after-school time slot.
I assume you 'might' be (and I do mean maybe) less influenced than a pre-schooler. Do you make all the pre-schoolers you know watch it?
As a Canadian what gives you the right to decide who can watch what and at what time in another country? Like the second link shows, it was moved to a later time so that the 'working adults' can also watch it, after all it is meant for people who know more about society than pre-schoolers. I still know people who don't let the 'youngest' watch South Park, just because it is in cartoon form doesn't give it a 'G' rating. What is the TV 'rating' for the Simpsons, I would bet it is meant for 12 and older? Oops I was off a bit. TV-14

Actually cartoons were not originally invented to entertain children, they just ended up that way.... if you wanted to get historical about it.

On a side note, the majority of motion pictures when the technology first came out was mostly pornography.

For somebody with a bay-watch avatar I would have thought you would be thrilled at the news.
