Right, but the government claims that the audits are part of an initiative for all charities and that they have no part in which ones are being picked. CRA just audited Tides 2 years ago and found nothing wrong. In fact they just won an award for openness and governence.

It just makes no sense that they would be picked if this is completely random and the government has no part in it.

Fair enough... I can't comment on Tides as I know very little about them.

In terms of 'randomness', I don't buy that it exists in this process, however, there are certain rules that orgs must abide by in order to retain their status as a charity and if they break those rules OR if the CRA receives complaints on a particular group, then an investigation is engaged.

Two very interesting pieces. The first raises the suspicion that the NRA might be contributing to Ducks to assist in the lobbying for the abolition of Gun control. The second reveals what is obvious but what is never brought to public attention. Foreign ownership and the myth of jobs for Canada from the oil sands.

The serious issue, however, is the continuing practice of demonisation of whatever interest or opponent stands in the way of the CPC march to authoritarian government.

They get scarier by the day.

I haven't heard of Ducks Unlimited getting into the political lobbyist game. For that matter, Ducks isn't anti-hunting; why would anyone care if the NRA gave them any cash?

If complaints incited audits then Suzuki would be getting one every year.

And those are just the complaints coming from you and petros. ;)

They may have been subjected to annual audits. I firmly believe that the pending audits have much to do with Suzuki stepping down.

Me neither.

And we get no explanation for it either.

Well, here's one to offset the reddies.

..... That was really strange.

Why are you spraying me with reddies in this thread?

Edit: Why are you spraying everyone with reddies?

He/she/it is being a dick?

It's not 'random' random, but outside of a specific complaint or tip, no one really knows what flags a file for their attention. But the specific way in which they've tightened up the rules is not a bad thing. Personally I don't give a damn whether anyone has been 'targeted' because of it, it still remains that the rule should be tightened up.

Isn't everyone into the lobbying game? Oh no, that's Twister. Never mind. ;)
