Charges laid after fatal 401 pile-up involving two transport trucks

Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges in connection with a deadly crash on Highway 401 late Monday.

The crash between two transport trucks and three other vehicles happened on the 401 eastbound between Prescott and the 416 around 10:30 p.m.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other people suffered serious and life-threatening injuries. One of them was airlifted to hospital.

Their identities have not been released, as police are still notifying next-of-kin.

60-year-old Jamil Ahmad Qureshi, of Brossard, Quebec, is facing two counts of dangerous driving causing death and four counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

He'll appear in court in Brockville on Friday.

OPP did not say which vehicle Qureshi was driving.

Highway 401 eastbound reopened Tuesday afternoon.

Oh, but wait, our resident truck drivers on here keep saying that it's always the car drivers' fault, so this can't be true.

I'm your resident truck driver.. and it's been proven with stats that it is generally the automobiles fault.

However, I'm a driver with zero accidents, point and CVSE infractions.. and pride myself in that..

note: zero accidents i'm responsible for.. some dumb arse on Stony Trail ran into the back on my pick up truck last week. Un-f*cking believable.

I come home after driving one of the worst road conditions, saw plenty of trucks in the ditch and trucks that rear ended each other (following to close for road conditions) and I get home, go to urgent care with a bad ear infection, they give me a prescription, so I go to the only 24 hr Shopper Drug in North Calgary.. on Stoney Trail I set my cruz at 102 km per hr.. as I get to McKnight Blvd I look up and see a car running up on me.. okay racing he will pass, right? Nope at 140 km/hr rear ends my pickup truck and totals his Acura.

Insurance just paid the damages on my pickup truck 100% after an investigation, and the guy was charged with Careless Driving.. guess that is 6 points, 6 months jail or a fine or both.

There is a difference between a truck driver and a gear jammer. I strongly suspect that gear jammers that drive trucks poorly do the same in their private vehicles. Then again the pay isn't really good enough to get better qualified candidates.

How the employment structure works.

A students work for the B students
C students work for the government
Everyone else drives truck.

That stretch of the 401 is a straight, level line for miles. It's like driving the Southern TransCanada near Regina ... hypnotic and deadly.

Give a guy with limited driving experience a few lessons then turn him loose behind the wheel of a 60,000lb vehicle on the busiest of roads, what could possibly happen?

I love it when people say something and then qualify it in the next sentence. Are you running for political office?

Christ, half the 401 is like that. The stretch from Windsor to Chatham has got to be the longest 45 minute drive there is.
