Halloween isn't a statutory holiday, no legal recognition, no prohibition, so what's stopping anyone from celebrating it whenever they want to?

..Tradition. it goes way back and has gone through a few incarnations to get to the party time it is becoming. For many it is more" important:" than Xmas Heck.....only Santa gets to dress up in costume on Xmas.......;-)

Halloween is no longer just for kids.

Chinese New year should always be held in the Summer, as well, don't you think?

Halloween is no longer just for kids.
It never was, the kids are the only visible ones. 'A few of us older kids' buried a farmers tractor inside a large stack of bales, he found it in Feb, a month after he got a cheque from the insurance company, a pretty big one . . . true story.

It is an ancient celebration that occurs according to certain yearly solar alignment.
But with no legal backing, at least not in Canada.

I wish every holiday were like hollowing. Just make a law guaranteeing so many days off a year and you negotiate with your employer when you want them off.

I think Poland did something similar by reducing statutory holidays to a bare minimum and then compensated by just increasing the number of days a person could take off in a year.

'Which' one would that be? Sept 21 and Dec 21 are the 'big events' on a global scale. We get our other 'special days' from pagan Europe.
The RCC began drowning the flock about 1400AD and their favorite target, . . . wait for it, . . . witches.

I have to ask: who's the petition directed to? Unless it's a stat holiday, the government has no role in it. So unless the state makes it a start holiday, the best the petitioners can do is organize to celebrate it among themselves on the chosen day.

I heard about it about 5 years later, 6 years later I was wondering if that was a plan before we ever got there. Who cares, it was very dark and we did such a good job people couldn't tell the difference in broad daylight when standing within 20' of the stack. Then everybody could get into the bar legally, not nearly as funny . . .
