The RBs defense woke up. Stopping the Stamps but good. For once Spencer didn't rip a lump out of 'em on the return.

AAAArrrgh! Will somebody BLOCK Micah Johnson already?!?!?!

That might have been it. Impressive return for a TD. The spin move, the cutback. Wow. Hate it, but gotta admire it.

Yep, that was a beauty. I'm glad they are playing at home - looks like a grand evening for football in Calgary.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you see that.

Gotta admit. The more open stadiums are far better-looking than our closed bowls.

Have you seen Regina's new showpiece, Tec. It is really a beautiful and very functional stadium. Pete is going to the Canada Day game against the Hoovers. The lucky schmuck.

Open stadiums are fine until the chill of November sets in and the play-offs begin. I've attended my fair share of CFL games dressed in a snowmobile suit.

It's a beautiful summer evening hear, not much different than what they've shown of Calgary tonight as they are only an hour ahead of us.

I have all my windows and doors open. My next door neighbors have a fire going in there pit and the smoke wafts through periodically.

I worked all week and am really looking forward to the weekend.

Perfectly sensible football fanwear. Probably need a 4X jersey to go over it, though.

OK, c'mon, RBs! Hold 'em to a field goal, and we can take the lead!

Helluva a game, Tec.......what a way to kick off Canada Day weekend in the CFL. Really couldn't have asked for a better game - mistakes and all.

Ouch. We are now officially desperate.

Great game.

In case you were wondering, there are several factors that make CFL more exciting: the bigger field, the extra man, the motion before the snap, the rouge motivating teams to return kicks rather than letting them go, the fewer and shorter stoppages.

But the single biggest thing that makes the CFL more exciting than the NFL is three downs instead of four. It makes every play a go-for-broke proposition, where the NFL often wastes a play on some sort of probing or experiment, with far less consequences if it fails.

The four downs have been my single biggest problem with the NFL, Tec.

Wow! Rainbow, complete with pot of gold!

By the way, I think I'm about 20-30 seconds behind you on video delay. You called the TD that long before I saw it.

Totally proud of my Rouge et Noir! Heads high, lads, you played a fine game.

And full credit and congratulations to the Stamps. I'm not willing to say they're a better team, but they were a better team tonight.

If the rest of the weekend goes like this, it'll be a great Canada Day weekend.

Next up. . . Go Riders!

Harris threw for 425 yards. Mitchell threw for 295. There was a 60-yard QB sneak that went for a TD. What a crazy night.

Absolutely amazing. Not sure why I kinda bailed on the season last year, but I'm in love again. Especially since the chances of getting to a Redblacks game in person are way better than it was with the Riders, for me.

Enjoyed watching the game with you, Mo. Your good humour and CFL expertise help me a lot.

Have a great weekend and an amazing Canada Day 150!

And post pictures!

There were a lot of games last year that were pretty boring. Both teams slugging it out but neither really able to spark anything. Also, if my recall is correct, you were on the Riders bandwagon last year, and let's face it - they sucked. Hard to keep up a level of enthusiasm even for the eternally committed such as myself.

Well thank you for that, Tec. I enjoyed reading and responding to your comments. I hope we can do it more often.

I was in town today and everywhere I went I talked up our 150th. I saw some folks wearing Canada T's of varying types and vehicles flying our flag. I washed my car then decorated it with Canadian flags - two for each window, two decals for the bumpers and the coolest magnet one for the hood. I also bought myself a Canada 150th birthday T to mark the occasion. I went in early this morning just in time for stores, banks and government offices to start opening. Was glad for my foresight as it got up to 30' here today but by that time, I was home.

Watching the Argos and the Lions right now. The Blue Jays are playing their first game with Boston today but I rank my loyalties and the CFL will always be a rung higher. Not much of a game though there have been some great defensive plays on both sides of the ball. The Lions are ahead 7 - 3 with just over a minute left in the first half.

A timely interception by the Argo's Johnny Sears Jr and Toronto puts another 3 on the board as the clock runs out.

Posey and SJ are definite keepers, CS. Both have that great ability to make clutch plays when it really counts.

So far, the 3rd Q has been the most interesting. The Argos just went ahead of the Lions 15 - 10 - they missed on an attempted 2-point convert.

It wasn't a good night for the Argos and just a slightly better night for the Lions who well aided by the TO's committed by Toronto. Lions win this one 28 - 15.

Riders vs Hoovers

I think that was the best opening Q I've seen from my guys in a very long time. The D was a solid Green Wall. Kev looked sharp and his last pass for the TD was right on the money from over 30 yards out. Special Teams need some tweaking but all is good so far as the Q ends with my guys ahead 10 - 0.

Mosaic Stadium - showcase of the CFL

An interception off Kevin Glenn and an illegal block call on Sask aided the Hoovers in getting their first three points of the half off a FG. Late in the 2nd, they rallied for a TD to come within 7 of the Riders.

With :33 seconds left in the first half, Kev threw a pass right into the hands of a Winnipeg defender. Nicols followed that up with a beauty of a pass to Denmark for a catch near the Rider 10. Luckily, both attempts by the Hoovers to find the end zone came up short and they had to settle for 3.

17 - 13 for the Riders at the half.
