Having commercials or user pay puts the burden of funding on the viewers and listeners of the service. Which is how it should be. If you want to do something, watch something, you pay for it. Watching advertising is paying for it.

Says who? Why do you feel the CBC should be different than any other government program or service?
It is not a necessary service.
It is not a necessary service.
No service is necessary. The question is what is desired by the group. That is the first conversation that needs to be had. Then the broadcast act amended to reflect the wishes of the majority
I am not against most federal services being entirely user pay. The only things that are really are necessary or common are healthcare and education and regulation where required. And 2 of those are provincial.
If I feel I have no need for a military, border security or bank regulators, does that mean I should not have to pay?
I would consider those essential...
No we actually live in a constitutional monarchy .
Anyone wanting CBC is free to pay for it but don't expect the rest of us to fork out hard earned tax dollars for that drivel. Make it PPV. Or PPL for radio.
Not since we got satellite radio. No more irrelevant Toronto imposed drivel. ANy kind of music you like add free.
Sharp intake of breath.Fukk the constitution.
