Poll suggests majority of Canadian would rather see William become next King

OTTAWA - A new poll suggests the majority of Canadians would prefer to see Prince William become King, not his father.

The Canadian Press/Harris Decima poll, released today, asked 1,000 Canadians about their thoughts on the Royal Family.

The respondents were evenly split on the importance of the monarchy with 45 per cent responding that it is an important part of Canadian history and culture while 44 per cent believed it is a relic of our colonial past.

Regionally, Quebecers were twice as likely to say the monarchy has no place in modern Canadian society while a majority in all other regions believed it should be maintained.

Forty-one per cent of respondents said they would rather see Prince Charles pass off the throne to William rather than succeed Queen Elizabeth himself, while 31 per cent believed Charles should be King.

The poll was conducted between Oct. 29 and Nov. 1 and has a margin of error of 3.1 per cent, 19 times out of 20.

I'm in line with the poll also. Personally, I think Charles replacing his Mother and becoming King would be a big mistake for the Monarchy, both in England and abroad where he would be replacing Queen Elizabeth. The Monarchy is in dire need of an infusion of young blood. Prince William would bring that along with a younger more modern incite.

I think people want a young handsome face, moreso than a ruler. I hear vitrually no criticisms of Prince Charles' 'inability to rule' that is based in policy, and almost entirely criticism that are based in not liking his appearance, or his personality.

I personally see nothing wrong with Charles taking the throne while William continues to grow up.

It's a tough one- if Lizzy lives as long as her mother, there's no telling what shape Chuck would be in by that time, could be pretty decrepit and doddering. Even Bill would be well into his forties. Except for Edward V111 abdicating, never did hear of a British monarch pulling the pin before they expired.

For our system of Governance to work, we need some kind of a Monarch,
but is who that Monarch actually is important? Does it really matter who wears
the crown as long as someone does? :-?

Yes you are right ,as usual gerryh .My post was just about a dream I once had . But it looks that Canada is not mature enough for such a move ,and your answer to my post proves that .

One thing about Philip, he sure doesn't take any crap from anyone- years ago when he felt the photographers were getting a little too nosy, he grabbed a sprinkler that happened to be handy and drenched the lot of them.

What has Prince William done to deserve Canadians adulation? Is he the one who marches around in Nazi outfits on halloween?
