Canadians Moving to the US

Im a expatriate who is living in the U.S....and I love it here!! Been here for almost a year and am definitely enjoying a much better quality of life as opposed to living in Canada where I was striving to pay the bills. Here I can save alot more money on close to minimum wage as opposed to Canada where its extremely hard to live on minimum wage...it really needs to be raised considering how expensive everything is up north. Anyways, answering the original post on this thread....aside from being married to my American wife...politics would definitely be the next choice for the reason for moving to the U.S. I do consider myself a moderate conservative. And yes I do support Bush to a certain extent. But I can always explain later since its late and I must go to bed.

I can answer any questions you guys have about the U.S though and any misconceptions you may have.

Sure miss Tim Hortons though, lol...could use some hot coffee down in my neck of the woods

No. It is based on world powers having fought to control the oil supply since WWI. The price of oil in the domestic market is an aside, at best. Oil drives the war machines.

We have not gained control of Iraq's oil supplies nor do we intend to.

Obviously you haven't been following the crap that spewed out of Paul Bremer's office when he was in charge in Iraq. He took control of Iraqi oil away from Iraq and gave it to the US oil companies. The only ones who stood up to him were the members of the oil union, which Bremer had made illegal.

Taking payment in US dollars means that your payment will devalue. Most of the oil in the Middle East goes into the EU. There is a movement within OPEC to break US influence (mostly through Saudi Arabia) in the organization.

Why would a weak US economy benefit an oil producing nation? We are consumers and that means BIG MONEY for these nations.

You won't quit buying oil no matter what. The US economy, and the wealth of US leaders, is built on oil. It doesn't matter if your economy tanks, you'll continue to buy.
