Our current liberal government has no spine!

That's true. They refuse to stand up to the US. They are nominally better than the Conservatives who develop new ways to destroy Canada just to please their corporate masters in the US.

You have a president who maybe for other reasons that we dont know is fighting for something worthy and taking a lot of heat for it.

He's known for starting an illegal war for oil. He's taking heat for it, but he should be standing trial for war crimes, so he's actually getting off easy.

Our government stayed away from the war on terror.

No, we sent troops to Afghanistan and took part in the war on terror. We have stayed out of the war for oil because killing people for oil is wrong.

Canada is plagued by tax.

Our taxes pay for our social programs, which are an integral part of our society.

Houses cost too much,

House prices in Canada are actually quite reasonable when compared with other developed nations. We also have increased costs for mechanicals like furnaces and things like insulation and windows.

cigarettes (if you smoke) cost too much.

Yup. The taxes we pay for those, and I'll bet I smoke more than you do, bigjoshuaw, pay for the increased health problems that smoking causes as well as discouraging people from smoking more.

Gas.......too much yoou average cost of gas right now in the U.S is 1.9 dollars a gallon which is 50 cents a litre. our average is 82 cents a litre whice is 3.09 dollars a gallon.

Given the environmental problems that burning gas causes and the prices they pay in other places, our gas is underpriced. The real problem with the taxes on gas is that they end up subsidizing fossil fuel companies instead of going to develop environmentally-friendly sources of energy.

Im comming as soon as i can i will be leaving Canada to call the US home.

Have fun down there.

I'm sorry i didn't mean stand up to the US. I meant join the US. spinless to join the US. Spinless to stand up to ridiculous people asking for ridiculous things in this country.

Besides.... the war on oil..... wrong?........ maybe .

Sometimes you need a bad act to create a good outcome! Who knows? What if something good came out of it. Was freeing a land of an evil dictator was wrong? Who knows but im willing to take the chance!

I know what you meant. I oppose it it with every iota of my being. Canada is a sovereign state. We do many things far better than our southern neighbours. There is no reason why we should decide to become just like them.

Besides.... the war on oil..... wrong?........ maybe .

It's not a war on oil, it's a war for oil. Big difference there, Joshuaw.

Was freeing a land of an evil dictator was wrong? Who knows but im willing to take the chance!

So you support full international sanctions on Uzbekistan then?

When is a view or a thought or a comment deemed to be "hate"?

Someone should tell this to the morons who wrote the hate speech laws

If anyone has any questions about hate laws and offensive speech, I'm sure peapod would be more than happy to help you.

War for Oil

Another theory that has been shot full of holes. Where is all this oil the US was supposed to get?

The oil will belong to the Iraqis. They will set their prices in line with other OPEC nations. We will continue to pay inflated gas prices.

What does it matter?

OPEC will sell the oil at the price they set. All of the oil companies will have to buy at the going price.

The US will not have free or cheap oil. That is the theory of the "War for Oil" is based upon. The US conquers an oil producing nation and gets hold of its oil supplies for its own needs. It just didn't happen.

The Iraqi's will fall in line with the rest of OPEC and charge the world the going rate.

I assure you, I will be paying $1.85 or so a gallon until the costs rise... then I'll pay more.

RE: Canadians Moving to t

Do you understand the the importance of oil in geopolitics and the world economy, EagleSmack? Do you comprehend what the implications would be if OPEC decided to switch to the Euro instead of your failing US currency?

Hey! EagleSmack

I've read everything I could get my eyes upon in order to understand or comprehend why the U.S. invaded Iraq.

It was for the oil.

Can you find any evidence or historical fact that would support any other reasoning?

Well the reasoning, which obviously turned out wrong was WMD's.

Again... where is this endless flow of cheap oil? That is what the theory is based on.

"The US wants to invade Iraq to gain control of it's oil supplies."

We have not gained control of Iraq's oil supplies nor do we intend to. OPEC will control the price of oil and we will pay.

Rev... I am well aware of the role oil in geopolitics. Although I am not up to speed on "what if OPEC changes from dollars to euros".

Tell me this. If what you say is true, what would be the reasoning to do this? Why would a weak US economy benefit an oil producing nation? We are consumers and that means BIG MONEY for these nations.

I am sure many nations would gloat over a collapsed US Dollar and a collapsed US economy. But when US money stops flowing to other countries how will that be beneficial?

The US economy will always ebb and flow... as will Europe's, Asia's etc. In the 80's Japan was considered the strongest economy and they bragged how they could say "NO". As we saw the Asian Markets collapse in the 90's it just goes to show that what comes around goes around.
