Confusion here (nothing new)...

How can one University be "best" at everything?

I have always thought there were particular schools which had excellent training for a particular profession not a blanket "best" for unnamed departments.

Perhaps getting started in Freshman and Sophmore years it isn't important, but when you are getting into the investment of time and money you want to graduate from the best or better school in the category
you selected.

It is also important to consider post graduate work and what would be a direct link from the undergraduate schooling.

It's a game of politics unfortunately - and there are general courses available in all schools - but not all are the "best"....whatever that means.

You're not confused, a university cannot be best at everything. Universities are distinguished by reputable departments. These deaprtments become reputable by the curriculum and faculty. If you're going to study science, you try and get into MIT, not UCLA.
