Canadian Smoking Laws

I don’t smoke I never head and I enjoy smoke free bars but I think the ban on smoking in public places is stupid. Lots of people like to do it and who are we tell them they can’t light up. Sure we want smoke free places to go to but why should we stop people from doing what they like especially if we could get a big tax grab out of it.

Here is my thought. Clubs bars and restaurants that allow smoking should pay a licensing fee and the fee should be big enough so at least half the clubs choose to stay smoke free. Next there though be ventilation requirements in the licensed clubs as well as requirements for gas detectors and if the amount of smoke exceeds some threshold fines on top of the licensing fee then fines will be levied.

See why ban it if instead we can let people go out have fun and enjoy themselves well the government collects big money reducing the need for income tax. Have you ever had cancer? I have. It's not fun. If I were to get cancer from second hand smoke...I'd be pissed off. No, I think our smoking laws are perfect. Cigarettes are portable...take them outside. I don't see a difference between people lighting up in a bar and me running a hose from my car into said bar and pumping exhaust in there. Yes, would I be allowed to do that? Nope. The laws are designed because cigarette smoke is dangerous. One persons night out could mean an asthma attack for another, coughing up black phlem in the morning by another, and something more serious for another. Cigarette smoke does not belong in a confined area with a large number of people. The smoking laws are good.

I enjoy eating out far more now that I don't have to sit in a smokey room. The only places that suffer from a ban on smoking are Bingo halls and casinos, maybe some bars but not eating establishments.:smile:

According to stats there, smoking accounts for 40% of hospital admissions. Alcohol, however, is blamed for over 50% of emergency visits.
Next time I see a bloke kissing a bottle in public I'm going to demand he take his filthy habit inside where it belongs. And it's also time the price on such beverages was doubled to dissuade their use.

One thing about alcololics is that they often forgo any real food entirely, and the booze eventually lives up to it's "rotgut" name. The good thing I suppose, is that drinkers don't force non-drinkers to share the way smokers do to non-smokers. I've been an non-smoker for over twenty years and when I see a smoker light up in a restaurant, I fight an urge to beat him with the ashtray. Most doctors will tell you that alcohol, in moderation, is harmless, and even benificial. That's my story and I'm stickin' with it......:-?

Well when I was a kid growing up, when my parents and I would go on a trip to Brandon, MB, we would check to see if cars were behind us, and if their were no cars, my mom would roll down the window and throw out the kleenexes, candy wrappers, and pepsi cans... never a full bag of junk, just and odd kleenex, drink can, candy wrapper here and there.

My parents did that since I was born basically, and I never thought twice about it, and when I got my own life I continued it..

Never really think twice about it.

And, no, not yanking anyones chains.

I don't want a stinking apple core rotting in my car, waiting for a garbage can.

I would never do it in a beautiful place (eg. Vancouver, or the beautiful mountain regions or near a river)... but I don't have much care or respect for the Prairies... nothin beautiful about them.

And no, I don't smoke, so I don't cause fires...lol

That was likely the dumbest post you've made, and that is saying something.. What you are telling us is that your parents were stupid and that is why you do the stupid things you do. Then you tell us that you would suspend your stupid behavior if you were in the mountains or near a river, but it wouldn't bother you to pollute the roadside in the prairies. You don't seem to have the innate intelligence to keep a plastic bag in the car to keep your garbage in until you can dispose of it properly. You keep saying the U.S. is better. I suggest you go there..........as soon as possible.

I dunno...do they really suffer? Maybe at first...but, if all of these places are smoke free, people will come back eventually. At first, I think it's just a protest thing, but if they really like going to the bar or to the casino or what have you, they will be back. But, man, going into those places when there is a haze of smoke is pretty horrid. I go to see a LOT of bands. I remember the days when after going to see a band I would be coughing up black phlegm (sp?) for two days afterwards. My clothes just wreaked of cigarettes. I found myself sluggish. My eyes burned. I would be so thirsty. Now, I go to see a band, and there is none of that. It's great. The bands still sell out, it isn't like people are going, but guys like me who don't smoke don't end up in rough shape for two days after as a result of inhaling all that crap. It's way better now, I tell ya.

Littering is a stupid thing to do. it requires total thoughtlessness on the part of the litterer. If you had more intelligence you'd realise it's disrespectful, polluting and uneccesary.

I couldn't agree more, but the point that is being missed is the right's of these people to choose is being totally trashed. I do not want smoking in a restaurant, show, or anything else for that matter that i choose to partake in. But when do we tell big brother enough is enough, Effective and seperate smoking rooms were available and alowed everybody to enjoy whatever services they wanted in the fashion they so desired. I will compare this again to prohibition, it is no working despite the constant media barrage against smokers. New smokers start up everyday, why? Because it is a lifestyle choice.

Here are my thoughts on smoking......
It looks stupid, ( a person puts a long white tube in their mouth & sucks air through it as hard as they can which caves in their cheeks ) then they swallow the air with the smoke in it, and then they exhale it back out their mouth and nose or one or the other , then they do it again right away, so they don't waste any by letting it burn itself down ) it serves no purpose ; smokers just think it does, it's just a habit like biting your nails or picking your nose, it's really expensive, (imagine how much extra money you would have if you didn't smoke) smokers throw their butts on the street & dump their ashtrays wherever they happen to be when the ashtray is full, it invades non smokers clean airspace and forces us to breath it in, smokers clothes stink & so do they. When they walk by you it almost knocks you over. And that is when they haven't got one lit up. Non smokers cannot get away from it no matter what they do. If coworkers smoke outside and come back in and sit down near you or beside you.......you have to smell it all day long. If your neighbour smokes and comes over to borrow an egg and ends up in your house, even if you try to keep them out, it stinks. If you go over to their house to borrow an egg for only a brief minute, you have to have a shower when you get back because it has already permeated your hair and clothing. If you have a kid who's friend is the child of a smoker and they come over, they stink. You can't tell the poor kid that! So, you have to breath it in. If your kid wants to go over to said kids house, you can't let them because his parents smoke.
Smokers and non smokers should live on separate planets. I'm staying here.

Littering is an easy and effective option for me.

The only way I will stop is if I get caught and fined one day, and then I will stop b/c the fine will make it no longer effective.

But I have not been fined yet!
