Five raised several good points that the military has always stayed away from the politics and it now appears that you have to spout happy conservative language or you will face discipline. Never happened before in the history of the military in Canada at least.

Ya wow thats a bad sign that Harper is keeping our Brass mouths shut.

It can only be because they are doing stuff Canadians might not agree with, and plans for much worse. This will be in Afghanistan of course.

Harper has been given the command [by those who tell Presidents and PMs "what to do" ] to go in a make Afghanistan a place where oil corporations can do their work safely... especially that Caspian Sea pipeline.

To acheive that, a lot of nasty military business will be needed, and Harper is just the guy to send Canadians to do that work. If he doesn't, they won't install him as winner in Canada's next "election".

Remember before the election, Harper said there was no hidden agenda? Well the agenda is hidden now isn't it?
I hope Harper keeps this direction going, the more he stifles debate in public the more he insists on silence the more ammo he gives to those who want to bring down his house of cards.
The other thing I like is his new devotion and boot licking of his American friends.
The next election will be about his hidden agenda, his pro Americanism and his distant dictatorial way, the combined opposition, will slowly undermine his minority government and presto, goodbye Harper.
If the opposition is smart they will let him do a couple of real unpopular things, that probably need to be done then oust him.
That way the Tories get the blame and Harper will be responsible for the mess.

RE: Canadian Military Bra

Yess, good point too, damngrumpy, the ENTIRE "agenda" is now TOP SECRET, even tho it is being carried out "in our best interests" and at our "request"...

Maybe Harper thinks he'sgot a lot of political capital he intends to spend, but I think the bank's already broken...

This gag-order, like the others announced recently, is kinda freakish and pretty much against everything I thought our parliamentary democracy stands for... I have no doubt that KArlin is unfortunately right about this being some attempt to make sure that the average Canadian has NO IDEA what is being done in OUR name (similar to the US keeping secret who was detained post 9-11 ostensibly to "protect their right to privacy")

The only good thing about Harpers meteoric rise to Dictator status is that a lot of folks are going to have a LOT of stuff to really seriously consider, and that if (and I hope to the gods that it is "when", and feel pretty confident that it WILL be) this wacky secret service BS sends Harper and his Neo-Cans back to the depths where they belong, that ALL Canadians will be a LOT more leery of ANYONE, right or left wing that tries to pull of this fascist style gagging of the democratic process... it's a stretch, but there HAS to be some good in this madness

and I don't care if it's his own party, the military or whoever, but telling folks they can't say what they think (and so far Harper has told that to anyone who he has any kind of "authority" over) is plain crazy and I am pretty confident that his government, party and all who would emulate him will be cast out eventually once their true natures are called to task
