He is popular in Australia now, but Aussies didn't watch him on Idol.

Don't they get AI in Australia? I thought they did - certainly not as popular as here, but I think they got the show.

But actually I do get the point you were making, airplay is a good thing. I think being on Oprah, and on the cover of Rollingstone not to mention AI having him back as a mentor (which as much as I like the guy I still don't get) - all those plus a press tour helped Adam get airplay all over the world and definitely elevated his profile.

Brian Melo's new single is out - I can't say I'm that into it. Wish I was. Maybe with a better sounding copy. :/

YouTube - Brian Melo - Soundproof (official new single 2010)

Mookie's almost done his album - does his producer look really young or is that just me?

Only 2 days of mixing left on Mookie's debut EP and it&#... on Twitpic

Brian's song sounds like a Nickelback song or something. *shudders*

I listened to most of Archie's album. It's okay, but it's not my cup of tea. All the songs sound the same. I think it's the kind of album I would have liked 5 years ago. Now? Not so much. And the ballad Falling Stars is just ick! I understand why they chose Something 'Bout Love at first as a single, because it's pretty much the catchiest song on the album. The others are kind of just there. I sound harsh, but it's not that bad. It's just not that good either. It's a "pop formula" album.

People like artists for different reasons. A fanbase is made up of individuals. Many of Adam’s fans outside the U.S. are not even “American Idol watchers”. He is popular in Australia now, but Aussies didn't watch him on Idol.

Yes, they did. American Idol is seen in Austalia (on the Fox8 network). Last count it was seen in 154 countries, wasn't it? I believe Adam's songs have been on iTunes in Australia and his album has been released there. (Not so, for Kris. I know because I know an Australian fan of Kris who complains about this.) Also, Adam has visited there, and he performed there (Sydney). Marketing is the main thing at work. If you're marketed anywhere you obviously have a better chance of being popular there. As for Canada, as we've already said, Adam's videos were on MOD, his songs were played on the radio, he's been to Canada several times to perform, he's been on MOD, he's been on the MMVAs. Marketing pays off.

But - SleepinIn - do you really know it isn't as popular there as it is here, or are you just assuming that? AI is hugely popular in many countries. Even countries like Aus. that have their own Idol show. And let's not forget season 9, because there was a healthy amount of pimping when Adam mentored - and that was seen all over the world, as well. None of this stuff has done him any harm at all.

Seems like Mookie's producer, Adam King, has worked with a lot of Canadian Idol alumni (mostly as a songwriter).

I've been doing far more co-writing and have written for/with: Dru, Mookie Morris, Jully Black, Rebecca Everett, Luke McMaster, Mladen, Andrea Wasse, Melissa O'Neil, Chad Doucette, Joel Stouffer (Dragonette), Kalan Porter, Theo Tams, Eva Avila, Nathan Ferraro (The Midway State), Phatt Al, Maya Chilton, Andy Stochansky, Damhnait Doyle, Ben Nudds and Les Cooper.

By the way, I've always wondered: how do you pronounce "Damhnait"? What is the origin of that name?

I kind of liked Brian's single. The sound wasn't good, so it's hard to tell what it actually should sound like. Canadian pop or rock always sounds a bit different to me. More melodious, or something. I always connect to it a little more.

Sorry just assuming. LOL. I was thinking it might have been on a cable network or something.

Gaelic I believe. It's pronounced Dab-nit

oh, yeah the producer guy has a LOT of Idol alumniae doesn't he? I wonder who he knows?

I was clearing out my twitter faves (bad, bad addiction) and I had this one saved of Michael Castro remembering meeting Kris because Kris was playing Paranoid Android at the auditions.

I don't know if I saw that before or not. That was cool.

And yeah, Kris should get a little picture insert on Lifehouse's ad.

(What's with the editing, here, by the way? Sometimes it seems you can edit, and sometimes, not. Have you noticed this?)

LOL - Kris looks so thin here. I heart Lizzie.

Yeah, that picture exaggerates his thinness. He looked pretty robust at the game the other day so I guess it's just the photo or what he's wearing or something. When I met him Lizzie was with him, but I remember how she immediately went and found something else to do out of earshot. Like he and I were old friends who needed to catch up. I thought that was cool.

American Idol is aired on cable TV in Australia but it's not popular there at all. Most Aussies don't watch it. Adam has gained fans there because his singles became huge radio hits. The same thing can be said about Jordin. Jordin has developed a decent-sized fanbase in Australia because her songs have received a good amount of plays on radio. As I said before, radio is the most important. There is no way some TV promos can makeup for the lack of radio play. Just look at Christina Aguilera. She was on Oprah, MTV Movie Awards, American Idol and other major TV shows, but her singles flopped badly because radio didn't play her songs.

I agree that "Something 'Bout Love" is the catchiest song on his new album. It's shame that it flopped. It seems to me that Jive is trying to cut off Archie already by rushing 2 albums and that's why they are not putting a decent effort behind his new album. I'd be very surprised if he gets another album after this :confused1:.

But she's Christina Aguilera. She has a profile there and she's had singles come out over there before and succeed so it's totally different. Sure she needs radio play for her singles.. but she also needs good singles. (I'm biased - I hated her last album so I wouldn't have played it either)

Battle of the Blades + FYE (just for you Ross :) )

YouTube - Adam Lambert's 'For Your Entertainment' on 'Battle of the Blades'

Those girls are dare-devils.

It's interesting reading about those US military bases (the newsletters someone posted elsewhere of the bases KAB are visiting) because a couple of my high school friends joined the Army and were stationed in that same area. Maybe even the same bases - I don't remember the names. But it was similar. They had stuff like book groups and community theatre to pass the time.

It's not something I tend to think about when I think army bases, you're right. :)

Landed in Brussels and now headed to The Netherlands... on Twitpic

im such a loser for sleeping on my first day in the Netherlands. on Twitpic

Interesting factoid. Lifehouse is also in Germany this week. Things that make you go hmmm. I don't think they'll play together there but it's interesting.

Yeah, I don't think they would play together. Kris's trip is sponsored by the USO, so I don't see how he could be part of a paying concert with Lifehouse or whatever.

My paternal grandparents were from that part of the world (Belgium).
