Good point. You always knew where you stood with Simon - he didn't really hide his feelings on anything.
Well, I don't really think that was my point, though. I meant I thought Simon was manipulative. I don't think you know where you stand with manipulative people. I'm sure Crystal thought she knew where she stood with him, until he decided to start de-pimping her, for example.
I didn't actually think Simon could be trusted to give his honest opinion. I mean, when it suited his agenda he could give it, but when it didn't, he had to withhold it. I don't think that bothered him too much.
He was also tricky, playing games to distract the audience from other judges' comments when they didn't fit his agenda, and he lied, when it suited him.
I suppose to some extent the same thing must have happened on Canadian Idol, but I got a sense of straight shooting from those judges. I think for the most part there was a refreshing lack of prevarication. I could give lots of examples. With AI you always get the sense of the judges playing games. I never felt that on CI, So either the CI judges were way better actors, or it didn't happen much.
Of course, I'm sure there are things the CI judges had to do to suit the show's agenda, like making sure fans from the Northeast got their one or two contestants in the Top 24 every year (or so I've been told), because a lot those people are such rabid Idol voters.
In other news, I hear some of Cook's fans were unhappy he didn't tweet or otherwise communicate that he was doing some private event in the San Francisco area with Lee. I think I said something here a while ago about Kris's fans expecting him to let them know when he did a private event (also in SF). I don't get fans that have to know everything, or why they think they have a right. It's weird, to me.
