I do think, though, that they should give singers who can't play an instrument an opportunity to bring someone to acconpany them. But logistically that's probably not a good idea.

That's actually what they do on Star Académie here. During the auditions, the contestants can sing a cappella, with the music on a CD if they bring it, accompanied by an instrument, played by themselves or someone else.

LOL!

Thanks for the explanation of singles, you guys. I appreciate that!

I love that about iTunes actually. I admittedly buy more albums than singles in general, and I buy more albums than most people as well, but sometimes, you just want to buy Poker Face, not the whole Lady Gaga album. Which is what I did. So, I think, in my case, it's good for the artist, because there's no way I would've bought Lady Gaga's whole album. But, yeah, I'm probably not representative of the average music consumer at all.

That's a good point. Do you get my point, though? When all you could buy was physical albums, people just bought a lot of albums based on one hit song, usually.

People tended to buy albums to hear the rest of the songs. It was the only way to hear them. Or they would buy albums just on faith, or curiosity. The songs weren't on iTunes, YouTube, whatever.

I bought many albums -- vinyl or Cds --and ended up not really liking them -- but the point is, I actually did make the purchases, and that was counted in the sales rankings. I think today there are many alternatives to buying an album.

Oh, yeah, for sure, you're right about that! And it's too bad that album sales have taken a nose-dive. I find there's still so much good music today other than the Tik Tok's of the world and it depresses me that people are not buying it.

And I actually know a lot of people who just illegally download the music... which depresses me even more.

When I think about it, it's amazing how many albums I bought without hearing anything on the album beforehand. I mean I bought a lot that way. That used to be the fun of it, actually.

I know. And that actually just reminded me of something. I've heard Tik Tok on the radio about a million times the past few days (or it seems like a million, anyhow) -- on Kiss108, I mean. I've also heard WWFM a few times. But I've suddenly stopped hearing LLWD. Not saying they aren't playing it, I don't know. I just never seem to hear it. A week or two ago, I couldn't turn on the radio without hearing it on that station.

Sometimes the songs they didn't release as singles weren't as good as the album tracks.

Even take Kris's album. I Need to Know.. if they release this as a single I will fall over. But for me it's one of the absolute standouts.

Tiny video of Jacob (in his missing sweater) when they recorded Wavin' Flag for Haiti

Speaking of that, Etalk had a small part where they showed some of the artists that participated and I remembered that Sam Roberts is someone I'd also love to see Kris tour with. Sam has no radio hits in the US, but man that would be a great tour.

SleepinIn, I never saw that eTalk clip before. Thanks!!

Did you notice? - at the end, they had a clip of Jacob doing "Don't Want To Miss A Thing". And he wasn't wearing the sleeveless black shirt he wore when he originally sang it -- he was wearing a black t-shirt. It was an encore. I know he sang that when he left, and he forgot the words. Maybe he did it after he did the encore of I Want You To Want Me. I have that on DVD -- must watch.

Good idea. Why not?

I think I shared with you guys a long time ago the video where Jacob climbed into the balcony in London, Ontario. Recently I saw this close up of it from the balcony. There's a few seconds where he stands there on the railing, without even holding on, and it seems just nuts. Of course, he was a carpenter, so he's a little more used to heights than some people. But still. Nuts.

Well, I see Let It be has slipped all the way down to #145 on iTunes. With zero promo other than the original appearance, I'm not surprised. At least it's still selling, but I think it was handled stupidly, like they didn't especially care if they sold it or not after the first week. This is Idol/19, not Jive, right?

Kris sold @6000 albums last week. I'm happy with that as long as he keeps on steadily selling 5 - 6 thousand CDs a week. If it suddenly stops, well then, not so good. Then again, there's only one single out so far. I expect this album to keep selling, with some peaks and some valleys, for a long time.

That reminds me, Kris was talking for a while about an EP. (Maybe an acoustic EP? I forget.) That seems to have gone by the boards.

No official figures out yet for LLWD. Not sure why. This is the week it should go platinum.

Sorry, busting in here again, but I had to add: SleepinIn, you somehow failed to mention that Simon said that Adam should have won, when Simon was on Leno the other night. Or were you just trying to spare me from having a hemorrage? lol

I just read the quote on TWoP (unless he was misquoted). As Bugs used to say, "Of course you realize -- this means war!"

Eh, not really. He's such a creep. I don't give a flying **** what he says. I also have a feeling, that, considering there's apparently no love lost between him and Simon Fuller, it gives him pleasure to be a maverick and have his own opinions to the last.

I mean, I'm not doubting the sincerity of his liking for Adam. But it's also about Simon. I just think he wants to assert his independence from Fuller and the show, as well. (Because his unspoken assertion is that the show doesn't pick the real winners, he, Simon, does.) I don't always think it's about Kris vs. Adam. It's often about Simon and power, and how he needs it and needs to display it.

I'd like to see a hardball interview with Simon, sometime, or anything serious -- not the fawning talk show appearances. I'd like a few follow up questions, such as, has Adam lived up to the hype he got on the show? What did he think of Adam's debut on the AMAs? What does he think about Kris selling a million singles? Has he seen any concerts by Kris? Or Adam? Has he listened to their albums? Etc.

Woot!! Platinum for LLWD! I haven't even seen the figures, yet, but I've seen all the LLWD!Platinum! tweets! And since he was at 999,000 last week, it was a no brainer that he would get to platinum this week!

So, yeah, I was totally wrong, and LLWD did reach platinum! The little song that could...

1,000,000 is a lot of singles, isn't it? And he did it the hard way. He really busted his ass. Very proud of Kris at this moment.

"I think the news that Kris Allen has sold a million copies of his single is bogus. I have read recently that Kris has sold only 990,000 copies of his single, Live Like It's Tuesday. I got this from a reliable source, twitter. It was verified by a man begging for change outside the Much Music studios at Queen and John Streets-- who said, incidentally, that Adam Lambert is the shaz-nit. Or the shiz-not. I think that is a compliment of sorts. I really don't know because I was too busy getting the cat spayed this week to actually look it up.

Also, I have learned on twitter that Kris is apparently a Christian, and is married to a young lady whose name is either Kathy, or Margaret. I sincerely doubt either of these claims and will wait for verification from my sources, two eleven year old girls in Guelph who tweet randomly about boys, icky stuff, and cooties. I promise to keep you all informed. If I can just get my darn alarm clock fixed, feed the turtles and the goldfish, and that lousy piranha! And if I can get my damn husband to fulfill his manly duties once in a while. So sick of his crap.

Well, thanks for listening. I wil continue to be your best source for all things Idol."
