I really only saw the last 20 minutes or so, so anyone who wants to fill me in on what I missed, I'd really appreciate it.

No reminder of Kris, really. And yeah, they were shooting so that we had Cook in the background tonight! Kris was still on the other side with Carrie, I could see him a few times.

They couldn't find more than 13 talented singers in Chicago? Among the 12,000 who auditioned? Whatever.

I'm glad Katelyn made the top 24. Her audition didn't blow me away, it was kind of vibrato-hell, but I enjoy her tone. I don't know why they tried to gain sympathy for her by talking about her parents's divorce. Happens more often than not these days. I guess showing people singing is not enough. A cute guy made it through, they could have showed him! Oh, yes, I forget the memo that a girl will win this year, they can't show the cute guys.

John also made top 24, he's okay. His voice is pretty flavorless.

The others? Meh. The whole show was pretty meh.

Yeah, that was a pretty bland hour I agree. You didn't miss anything at all Ross. I'd bring back Shania again but they didn't show very many good auditions, and the bad were just kind of pathetic.

There was a blonde girl at the beginning in a pink dress.. mildly interesting, and then a little blonde 16 year old from.. LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.. (and they didn't mention that the last winner was from there.. FAIL) she was pretty good.. but I agree they are pushing the girls big time.

You missed a ton of bad and uninteresting auditions.

You missed Katelyn Epperly. I posted a video of her on Sunday I think (or yesterday?). You missed Charity Vance, a little girl from Arkansas, who had a cute voice but not more than that. You probably missed Angela Martin, who was auditionning for the 3rd time after having been to Hollywood twice. She almost made it last year, but got bad luck and had to drop out. She's a good singer but not in a style I enjoy (R&B diva). Did you see John? I think that's all you missed.

This!

I think this is what Katy was refering to when she said that she knew a lot of people who hadn't made it through to the judges. I can't believe that among the 12,000 who were there they couldn't find at least 100 good singers. That's like 0,01%.

Andrew Cook loves himself some Kris, doesn't he? Somebody also asked him his favorite song by David and he answered Crush (Archie's song)!!

I think so too. I mean clearly there are a lot of people that would never make it, but given the number of people there's got to be more than 13 with some sort of talent.

LOL, he does. And his Crush answer is just hysterical given that the two David's were tweeting about being mistaken for each other.

It's okay. If she was from Conway, they probably would have said something, but technically Kris isn't even from Little Rock, so I guess I can forgive them on a technicality.
Did you see John? I think that's all you missed.

I came in when the Rueben type was singing. Guy with a squeaky high voice. Then there was the Tiny Tim guy, and the...well, I only saw three or four people.

Let's see...what else is new...? I kind of skimmed 'that' blog earlier, in work, and someone Canadian posted Adam's iTunes numbers for FYE and WWFM, and Kris's LLWD number, which is something like 150.

I posted briefly to point out Adam is getting more exposure, at least on MOD and I think on radio. And Kris is getting hardly any. I felt I had to explain that to people who may have been unaware of it (which would be most of them). I'm pretty sure (though I could be wrong) that if the LLWD video were getting played on MOD and if Kris had more radio exposure, he would be doing better on Canadian iTunes.
After all, people don't buy songs they don't know exist.

Certain things break later in Canada (such as a couple of years ago when The O.C. was just starting to be huge in Canada after it had already been cancelled here). I don't know RCA's strategies or Jive's, but I think they have them re other countries, and I think LLWD will make its way to Canada eventually.

Damn, they'd best get moving then. I'm tired of waiting.

Seriously, my theory is that CTV wanted Adam to come visit so they pushed him hard for RCA. There is no other theory that makes sense to me given that CTV/CHUM/Much/MTV are all connected. I'd look for Adam to turn up on all of the stations on Monday.

Maybe after Adam visits they will give in and play some Kris.

I think you're onto something but I would say it was more like "We will deliver Adam to you if you play FYE for X number of weeks." Maybe. I say that because there was hardly any reason of them to start playing it. RCA or somebody spent a lot of money on that video and it didn't take off in the US, so they have to make money off it somehow.

Or, your way also works. There is a lot of that stuff behind the scenes. We're all being manipulated.

Probably both! :) Manipulation doesn't only happen on Idol you're right. The real world music business is even more deadly.

I was feeling nostalgic and re-watched David Cook's audition and Hollywood week journey (I wasn't a fan yet at that point).

YouTube - David Cook - American Idol 7 Audition

Paula asked him if he believed he was the next American Idol and I think he was actually dead on with his answer, it was exactly why he won (brings something a little different to the table, versatile vocally, personable guy). His hair was awful though!!

YouTube - David Cook -Hollywood Week

LOL at him snarking on his hair and I especially like the "I don't have to go get a job!" at the end.

I used to more or less enjoy clicking on 'that blog' for the news, etc. ...except for the times it drove me crazy)...but I'm legit sick and tired of all the statisticians and accountants over there. I really don't give two craps about what percent this one sold over that one, two years ago, or how much this one's album grossed vs. that one's single. Are these people really music lovers?

I never cared much about this stuff, and while I like when something good happens, numbers-wise (like Kris selling nearly 700,000 LLWD's), I don't need the minute dissection. I reminds me of what people say about why they hate Hollywood social life. All anyone ever talks about is the numbers. I can see why they'd hate it.

I'm at work, can't look at Lee deWyze yet. But anyone who likes Kris is okay. Seems like a lot of them like Kris, doesn't it?

Clearly very intelligent folk.

Oh, dear. Keith Semple's gone.. *sigh* Revoked the ticket.. so only 12 from Chicago.. Didn't see enough of him but I thought he might be interesting.

I like seeing the numbers but there are so many variables that they don't really mean a lot by themselves. Context is everything.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I think I agree with you. Someone might say 9,000 people went to Chris Daughtry's concert, yet only 3,000 went to a concert by Jordin at the same venue. But no one remembers that there was a snowstorm the night of Jordin's concert. Just one small (fictitious) example.

Not only are circumstances variable, so are audiences, and so are artists, and so are tastes. That's why numbers are so meaningless. They only tell one part of the story.
If you look at an artist -- John Mayer, for example -- a few years ago no one would have predicted he'd be so huge now. And ten years from now he might be unpopular. Yet people think they have it all figured out. You can't figure it out. So all the talk, to me, is just blah-de-blah-de-blah. Interesting sometimes in a theoretical way. But useless.

Okay, this is what I mean. Now, this kind of depth just doesn't interest me.

In fact I find it a little funny, I'm sorry. I think Kris and David would find it something to laugh about, also.

Kris’s Soundscan numbers for last week were 5,430 albums sold.
TW with 13% increase that jumps to 6,136, or an increase of 706 albums.
Assume a 58% increase like DC had, that number would have jumped to 8,579, or an increase of 3,149 albums. In other words, all Kris needed to do to match DC’s increase of 58% was sell another 2,443 albums.
OTOH, when David got his +58% bump last year, he went from 19,000 to 31,000 albums, or an increase of 12,000 albums.

I see it's the "David Cook wall" again. No offense, but didn't he get featured enough last year?!!! I want to see Kris!!! (*throws small tantrum and is ignored*)

Was that big ex-convict as good as they said? I was bored with the show and reading a book about Lucille Ball that happened to be on the couch.
