It may or may not work out, but I'm pretty sure they want him to be a star. I can't think of a single reason why not. It's just common sense. Maybe you guys don't agree with that, I notice you're not agreeing. Just curious.

No, I agree with you. They want him to succeed.

and I agree Adam's media popularity isn't really translating to record sales - I mean he is doing better than Kris in album sales, but for the media storm that he had - the sales have been lagging behind.

Just watching FYE on MOD, I don't really hear it on the radio anymore either. When the MOD kids dance to it, it's really a fun song. It's weird to me that Adam's had such a hard time getting a song to work on radio. The songs should work. They're radio friendly. Also Kris and Canada.. what's the deal Canada?

Well, I'm not a big fan, so I don't know what this is worth. I think Adam's visual presentation is probably necessary for him to put his music over. As a disembodied voice on the radio, he's one of those singers who don't have a lot of personality. It's kind of ironic.

I don't know what's the deal with Canada where Kris is concerned. I don't think any of the promotional budget is being used for Canada. lol Obviously they're mainly concerned with creating a US hit right now.

I understood he got some adds in Canada, though. I haven't looked at the map for a long time.

Canadian stations playing LLWD:
Saint John and Moncton, New Brunswick (both added) -- Montreal, Quebec (added)-- Ottawa (added), Peterborough and Belleville, Ontario -- Regina and Calgary (added), Alberta -- Kelowna, Vernon, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

It's also being spun in England, Poland, Japan, Singapore, The Philippines, South Africa (six stations), New Zealand, Mayalysia, Indonesia, and Trinidad and Tobago.

We're not agreeing on what, ross? I'm not sure I understand (sorry!).

I think for me, it's hard to judge. I'm not in the US and really not a lot of people care about AI here. Some do, of course, but it's not in the "collective conscience" if I can call it that. And now that Adam's song is firmly playing on the radio in the Montreal big market, he's going to get more recognition here, but it won't be because of Idol. They don't really mention it when they play FYE, so I don't think it really has an impact that he comes from Idol or not.

The radio station in Montréal that added LLWD is the English Top40/HAC radio station (Virgin). I never listen to it since I like to listen to music in French sometimes and I can't bear the ads in English (I'm not sure why!). So I don't know if they're playing it often. I don't know if they added FYE (or WWYM) either. The radio I listen to, CKOI, plays FYE, but not LLWD. Of course, they're more limited in the number of English songs they play because of the French songs quota they have to respect. I like them less and less each time I hear FYE, which is starting to be a little more often that I'd like.

It kind of complicated, and I forget! Basically, I feel AI, if at all possible, will promote the Idol winner. Because it's good for the rep of the show. Kris now has a hit song, and they featured that in their ad for the show. So I think those posting online who are still trying to dig up ways Kris is being bussed are reaching, at this point. I guess that's it.

By the way, I thought Katy was really good in that show. Charming and likable. She drew me right in. She has a lot of natural film acting ability, too. It's a special kind of talent. Being real on film. It's not easy. It's funny, she's a lot like Kris. She's not a big ham, she's real and human.

Here, we are no longer hearing FYE. Maybe you can check the Mediabase stats on that. It's probably playing somewhere. But there's no promo for it, and the video has disappeared, too. On Kiss 108 they do ads where they mention three artists, and the song title, and they play snippets of each song. I've heard these ads for both Kris and Adam (WWFM). Kris was in the ad with Lady Gaga and someone else, I forget. His name is mentioned first. I forget who Adam is grouped with, but his name comes in the middle. Whatever. It's just interesting.

Oh, and I think it's kinda weird that even though AI is seen in Australia and people on mjs' blog who are Kris fans keep posting that they are dying to buy Kris's music on iTunes or in a store, it's apparently not available. But in New Zealand, it is. Wonder why?

Oh, okay, I get you ross! Yeah, I agree with you. TPTB surely want to make their winner successful, otherwise the show loses its prerogative. Or I guess, sometimes, they re-write history to make it say what they want (Taylor vs. Daughtry), but it's not the case most of the time.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was really touching. *sniff, sniff*.

There's an ad up for Kris's gig in the Philippines.

The AL fans were having a hard time hiding their greenness with envy about this a couple of days ago. Basically they were saying it couldn't be confirmed and therefore was just a rumor. MJ had to come on and say it was a fact, which she wrote in boldface (a fact. lol).

Well, I think I've had my fill of that blog for a while, again! All the posts today about Jive being cheap for sending Kris to do acoustic concerts, disparaging him for doing the "Meetball" for free, saying Katy needs to lose 10 pounds, and the usual remarks about AT&T and Arkansas, I really think I have to take a vacation from all that.

(I'll be online for a while if anyone's interested.)

I'm just getting ready to run off to bed but, this whole craziness

saying Katy needs to lose 10 pounds,

Drove me nuts. She's gorgeous.

Any time you do favours for radio stations (ie Meetball) .. it's a good thing.

and the usual remarks about AT&T and Arkansas,

And OMG, did that seriously come up again? Because clearly AT&T has nothing else to do with their time.

So, it's done, Cowell is leaving Idol after this season to produce a US version of X-factor. I say good riddance. And from what I heard, I'm more likely to stick with Idol, since X-factor is even more controlled by the judges/mentors, if that's even possible.

Cute short interview with Kris: OK Magazine Interview...The Last Word | KrisAllenAddicts.com | Kris Allen Fan Site - American Idol Season 8 Winner

Stupid article by Annie Barrett from EW who talks about how it's a good idea for Cook to cover his hair with a hard-hat, instead on concentrating on the fact that the guy gave his time to build a house for a family in need. Seriously? Does David Cook look like Jason Bateman in a hard hat? | EW.com

Thinking about it, maybe this will actually be the demise of Idol. How can two singing competitions of that scale succeed? On the same network, too. Also, is there enough "space" in the music industry for all the contestants that will be coming from the two shows (and all the previous Idol contestants)? It already seems pretty crowded.

That's a good point -- the scale of these shows is beyond anything. It might actually be the end of Idol for sure. That might be another reason Fox was so willing to sign a contract with Ryan for a bazillion dollars. If Idol ends they don't have to pay it all. I can't say I'm excited about X-Factor, it does seem more controlled to me too (is that even possible?? - but who knows...) That could also be another reason that Canadian Idol/Australian Idol aren't rushing back. Maybe they're taking a wait and see on the X Factor situation. Since it's been rumoured for awhile now that Simon wanted to bring X Factor to the States.

Interesting...

I wouldn't be surprised if Simon hires Paula to co-judge X Factor with him.

It would be sweet if it failed. :)

I'm trying to find the post but someone on MJ's blog (I know, I know, I stayed away one day. Not even) showed how Kris's LLWD has sold about the same amount at this same time of the year as Cook's LO did last year. I'll try to find it.

I heard LLWD on the radio again today. Of course, it's being played way more than Heartless was, and on more than one station, so it's hard not to hear it a lot. (And I never get tired of hearing it. It was a great choice for the single.)

For laughs it's worth reading VFTW sometimes. Not a steady diet of it, but every so often. Just a recommendation. When some of the blog posters get you down, you can read things like "Kris Allen Is Slaughtering Adam Lambert In Sales", on VFTW, and the world somehow seems a lot sunnier.

Jim Cantiello was on MJs blog for a chat today at 1:00. I didn't hang around for it, though. I had to go to lunch.

It would be. Am I bitter? Maybe just a lil bit. Gonna run with that though - lol. :)

GRR! When will Canada give in??? I'm dying here. (living .. and yet... still dying)

"Kris Allen Is Slaughtering Adam Lambert In Sales", on VFTW, and the world somehow seems a lot sunnier.

Hmm, except he's not. Just the singles sales. Adam's sold almost double what Kris has in album sales, which annoys, but is also the truth. I think Kris will keep chugging along though album wise, he doesn't have an album that will sound dated in a few years. So I think it will sell slowly, but will still sell. I'd like another single though, and I'd really like it pretty soon. LOL - no pressure Kris. Now the single sales.. they've been really good - kicking butt there :)

I read the chat when I got home. He doesn't think that Idol could survive Simon's departure. I disagree but Fox might have that same opinion. When you think about it, Idol is produced worldwide and Simon only appeared on 2 versions. It's the format that worked - not Simon. But for the US media, Simon is the show. So it's going to be interesting watching how Ellen judges and what the chemistry is. Simon's like a lame duck president this year.

Hedley's rehearsing!

This was more or less the post:

Hey Kris fans — did you know that (if the download estimates are right) LLWD will make Gold at the same week (or maybe even a week ahead) of David Cook’s Light On last year? (I’m pretty hazy on the exact week but I think it’s close.) Considering where LLWD started out relative to LO, that’s quite the accomplishment IMO.

That's fantastic news! :) It really is the little song that could.

Some more CES peeps are back home from Vegas. This is a really pretty version of Falling Slowly/With or Without You. Sound is good - but the video is a bit crappy though. (Could be I'm just spoiled because of all the HD videos lately)

The article was about single sales, though. Well, all I said was that I enjoyed reading that segment on the website. And the comments. You see, most things Idol-related on line are biased towards Adam, or dominated by annoying Adamtards. Even the Kris thread on TWoP has to put up with them. So this was just funny:

Vote for the Worst (I think it's on p. 2)

It's not as if VFTW loves Kris, after all. They just don't like Adam a lot more than they don't like Kris. lol

Anyhow, Kris's single is gonna go gold. I don't see why we all can't gloat like Glamberts, just once. They never hesitate to rub in how Adam is selling more albums, etc. They like to imtimate Kris will flop, all the time. They love to compare him to David Cook. Do we spam their threads asking why Adam's singles don't sell, and ask why he's not as popular on radio as Archie?

Why do Kris's fans have a hard time celebrating his successes? (Not saying you, or me, just...generally.) He has a hit single. He's wiping up the floor with Adam and all the other S8 idols with radio play and iTunes sales. I'm satisfied with that at the moment. I also think he'll sell the album more, eventually. The single was supposedly going to bomb, too.
