That "interesting first date story" was not actually interesting, by the way! First kiss, big pickle. Got any more like that? (Also, I'm kind of jealous, the girl kissed him. Wish my first kiss had been that easy to accomplish.)

So, yeah, he pretty much confirms that the process of recording the first post-Idol really sucks.

Going way back to here. Hee (I'm so easily distracted) It really is a double edged sword -- that first Idol album. I wonder how much time Kelly had to record her first album - I know it wasn't long, but they didn't tour that first season right? I seriously, don't know how they manage to do it. It's really insane. But then you think about the Beatles and how many albums they produced in the short time that they were together or the Motown albums. Plus there are a lot of fingers in the pot on Idol Cd's -- I'm sure everyone and their brother has an opinion to give them from everything from the songs to the artwork. And they are essentially a solo act. So they are in there alone against TPTB. Really it's a wonder any good music comes out at all.

ETA: and you're right - pickle story.. not that interesting. Again with the pickles.. so not right.

I seriously, don't know how they manage to do it. It's really insane.

Well, first, think how good a lot of their iTunes stuff is when they're on the show. They probably take a day out of their schedule to record most of these songs. Plus, some really amazing people do all the arrangements. They aren't perfect recordings, but many of them are pretty darn good.

What I mean is, they're used to doing it fast, and doing it amid doing a lot of other activities -- and also, they're really good artists who can get it right in only a few takes. I think the Idol training helps them a lot, also.

Seeing as I like a lot of old music, I sometimes laugh at people taking a year to record an album. It just seems crazy. Frank Sinatra recorded a whole album in a week or two, just singing live in the studio with an orchestra, no need for multiple tracks, tons of mixing, etc. And those albums are still classics.

But since people today often write their own songs, I can see them needing more time, to write.

Now, someone like Kris, who had the goal of writing the songs on his album, and who flew all over the country collaborating with various people, had a much harder time, for that reason. Adam just had to go into the studio and sing the songs people wrote for him (for the most part), and so have many of the other idols. They were on tour, so that made it harder, but they're singers, after all, and they've competed on AI, so just laying down the tracks for 12 songs shouldn't be all that tough. I really think the songwriting-plus-singing route would be the hardest.

Apparently people are tweeting that BB King's is packed, with a long line waiting. Not that I'm surprised! But it's nice to hear.

When I read David's answer, I didn't necessarily ask myself how they managed to do it. I'm not really surprised to see that they manage it. They are surrounded by pros after all. What struck me in his answer was that he seemed to think that the process itself is not enjoyable for a musician. How he said that this album he is making right now is like his first album, since he feels he can really try and enjoy the process of making it. I don't know, I just thought it was an interesting reflection on how the making of their first major-label album can be both a blessing and a pain in the ass.

Seriously, MJ has to do something about her website. I wanted to go check out some videos from last night and I got the "don't go on that site!!!" warning from my computer.

ETA: Found some videos on AINow. Kris did Yesterday, it was gorgeous. Also, he's now at #6 on the VH1 countdown, yay!

The Bloodstone Diaries sound like something I would enjoy, so I'll probably watch it later.

Right now, I just turned on Andrew Cook's last "AC on KC Radio". He supposed to play some Kris music (among others), but I missed half of the show, so I don't know if he has yet (4 hour show today instead of 2 hours!). I put it on and Andrew was actually talking to "Terry the light tech" (David's alter ego, lol!).

LOL. Thanks SleepinIn! While reading my twitter feed, I understood that not only did Andrew play some Kris music, he interviewed him! So Kris won 1,500$ playing poker?

I'll listen to it in an hour when Andrew is done...

He also interviewed Michael Sarver earlier (apparently really long and Sarver was very boring). Now, he's talking to Matt Giraud. I think he's supposed to interview David's bandmate Andy Skib later as well.

ETA: Wow, Andrew loves himself some Matt Giraud!

There are a few LOL moments, I have to admit. But for a volunteer project that's mainly done by everyone for the love and experience of it. It's not bad at all.

Aw, Andrew loves himself some Kris as well! LOL at him wanting to duet with Kris.

Just watched The Bloodstone Diaries. It's pretty good for a web series and Katy is convincing.

I read about this elsewhere and it made me think: Andrew asked Kris about touring and Kris said that he didn't know yet what he was going to do exactly, that the plans were not set in stone. I'm not worrying right now, since Kris seemed confident that something would happen, but still I hope they're working on it and settle some touring plans soon!

I voted for it 100 times one night last week -- wonder if it helped? :) You know, guys, if we all vote a bit we might push it up little more next week.

Too bad about your computer and mj's blog, missadicted, there are a lot of good things there from the BB King's gig, plus other stuff. I was just going to suggest you check out the thread. I'll try to copy a few things.........

Okay, watch this one all the way to the end.

YouTube - Alright With Me ( LIVE ) By Kris Allen

YouTube - Kris Allen & Kids 1/8/10

These two kids were the daughters of a woman who posts on mj's blog.

Good news, Ryland is not going on tour with his old band and is going to be touring with Kris.

I got to the club around 8 p.m. I had called Ratna12 to try and meet up there and I ended up getting to sit at Joanna’s table — which was good because by the time I got to the ticket person all the tables were gone — so there was just standing room only. Didn’t sit at the table very much — we all wandered right up by the stage to listen and try and take video/pictures (my camera, unfortunately, was a big fail). People were sitting on the floor litterally inches from where Kris and Cale were playing.

Joanna’s girls were so cute. They each had handmade signs that said “I Love Kris” — he showed them to the crowd and gave them hugs. So sweet. He also brought 4 young women out of the crowd to sing backup on AWM, which was fun. One semi-weird moment…when he finished LLWD, a bunch of people basically rushed the stage, which looked like it frightened or startled Kris, although he handled it very well and got people to chill and back off quickly. After he did his beautiful cover of Yesterday, he stuck around for at least 10 minutes signing autographs. One guy next to me was trying to get Kris’ attention by yelling that he was from Conway — Kris eventually heard him and greeted the man and his wife.

His set was a mix of stuff of his album and covers. What’s interesting about Kris is that he changes the arrangement and phrasing around a lot, so even on something like LLWD he isn’t going to do the same performance time after time. I thought he sounded absolutely great — and of course he looked hot as always. When we ran into Cale after the show, he talked a bit about how they just came up with a new arrangement for BWCU the other day. I enjoyed all the songs, but his covers of Chasing Pavements and Yesterday and the new arrangement on Before We Come Undone were just beautiful. The crowd really were into Kris’ set — although there were some people who talked through the entire concert, which annoyed the crap out of me.

The concert ended a little after 10. Joanna left with her kids and Ratnas12, Gabrielle and I walked around the casino a bit (I lost $25 playing computer blackjack). We ended up running into Cale, and, although we a few other people, we basically monopolized his time for 45 min or so. He loves talking about the music and the band — and he is so sincere in his belief of Kris’ talent, which is nice to see. He said they still haven’t told the band anything about the tour — although he did talk about the 2 shows in the Phillipines. He also said that Kris likes to surprise people and that they will probably play some new stuff once they go out on tour. He raved about Andrew’s guitar skills. Evidently all the guys in the band are songwriters so it will be interesting to see if Kris collaborates with the others as well as with Cale. He also talked about his old band and songs he’s written like “The Sun”.

Oh and they haven’t heard anything more about the AOL sessions. I hope he didn’t mind being surrounded for 45+ minutes — he genuinely seemed happy to talk to us, so hopefully we weren’t bugging him. (Kris was nowhere to be seen during our chat with Cale — he said something about playing poker after the show during his in-between banter, so maybe that’s where he was).

They were really happy, my 5 yr old spent the rest of the night bouncing around everywhere, and kept calling him “Krissy.” LOL. My 9 yr old cried a little because she was so happy, she did the same thing when she met Anoop, hehe. After the concert and we were on our way home, my 5 yr old said, “Mommy, I miss Kris! When are we going to see my Krissy again?”
