Halfway through that interview with Kris on KHOP and I wanted to cover my ears. Did you notice that in the background they just kept playing the intro to LLWD over and over and over and over, on a loop? Drove me frickin nuts.

No, I didn't push him at all. I actually didn't have super high expectations because I had had several friends who sing just as well as Kris try out and not even make it through the first round. I knew that it was a lot about luck in the beginning, and so I didn't think too much about it at all. I did have a feeling that if he could ever make it to Hollywood he could do really well though.

I swear Kris's family are always making comments like this about his singing. Don't they realize he's an exceptional singer? Just in her own life, mind you, in Conway, Arkansas, she has not one but several friends who sing just as well as the man who beat tens of thousands of other singers to become the winner of American Idol? Is she insane?

I actually thought Katy was very thoughtful and interesting in her interview. I liked her before, now I really like her (not that it really matters!). And yes, I'm sure some people who audition and sing just as well as Kris don't make it. I didn't have any problems with what she said.

What's Bloodstone Diaries?

The parts about Kris wearing tighter clothes and her sleeping in Kris's shirts made me LOL.

Did Kris and Ben Savage met totally at random? They seem to be in an airport or something.

Well, , if she knows several, then I guess we all must know several people who sing well enough to win American Idol. In my whole life I've never met anyone who sings that well, but according to her there must be several in every town, meaning, millions and millions of people.

Kris being a musician, they probably hung up with other musicians. More than we probably do. And by several, maybe she was talking about 4 or 5. I've personally met at least a couple of people who sing well enough to be professional singers (even if they're not). I'm not sure why you're taking this to heart so much...

I've always thought Kris and Katy are very honest. They also have their feet firmly planted on the earth, no false airs, or inflated egos between the two of them.

I think Katy's right there are thousands of people who can sing that never get anywhere near the judges on Idol, I mean if you look at the tryouts.. they have to wait like 14 hours to audition for the first time. I'd go home. :) Luck is a big portion of the first auditions. They're also casting a tv show so they are looking for a mix of types and personalities.

The Bloodstone Diaries is a web series that Katy acted in. I think I linked to it somewhere back there <------ lol Let me see if I can find the link..

This is from Facebook.

She didn't say they "were good enough to be professional singers" she said they sing just as well as Kris. I guess you guys don't think (as I do) that I've heard very few people in my life who sing as well as he does. His phrasing is extraordinary. With all due respect to Katy, I'm a lot older than her and I've heard a lot more music than her. She doesn't know what she's talking about. There's being realistic and grounded, but I wouldn't want to take it so far as to completely underestimate somebody.

Look at the Top 10 of American Idol. How many of them sang as well as Kris? And they were chosen over thousands of people. I just think it's an underestimation of Kris not to realize very few people sing "just as well as he does." It implies there's nothing special about him as a singer. It's a dumb remark.

Thanks for the info about Bloodstone Diaries, SleepinIn. Somehow I missed it before! I wish her the best if that's really what she wants to do (and it appears that it is)!

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree ross. Nothing in her comment struck me as being dumb. Just realistic. I strongly doubt that Katy thinks Kris is nothing special. A lot (a lot!) of singers that I like, I find that they sing just as well as Kris (and sometimes even better *gasp*). They're just different and that makes it just more interesting.

Don't even go there. :grommit: will bite you.

LOL

They're discussing singles here (..and Katy interview..oh dear..) I don't get the summer song thing. Really I don't. A good song is a good song. It's not like you can't play it in the summer if you release it in February. ???? There's a lot of love for BWCU for next single and CSA, I'd go for AWM, It's such a good song.. release it, free it for the people.

She wasn't talking about professional singers that you know. I'm not disputing that there are professional singers who are successful, who are as good as Kris. Read the quote. She was talking about "friends" who had tried out for the initial rounds of American Idol and didn't make it past the initial rounds. I doubt they were as good as Kris. I seriously do. They may have had good voices, but they most likely did not have that something extra, that something special, about the voice, the phrasing, the tone -- an indefinable extra thing that he has that these other people -- non-stars -- most likely do not. I think there's probably a good reason he made it as far as he did and they didn't -- he's better than they are. It may not be the best voice, the best phrasing, the best tone, but it's the best combination of those things, plus personality and looks and likeability. She called it a matter of luck, but I just don't believe that.

*iz scared of :grommit:*

LOL! Well, not really. It's my honest opinion, so bite me :grommit:. It doesn't make me think that Kris is nothing special... of course, I don't think that!

I'll stay away from singles discussions at this point. Who knows what will happen? But I agree with you about the non-issue of whether it's a summer song or not.

I totally believe there's a matter of luck in the first audition. They stand in a line of 5 or 6 people in front of producers and they have like 15 seconds to sing something. I doubt they really have the time to evaluate whether someone has amazing phrasing or not. Yes, they look at the package, but I'm sure they overlook some people. They see thousands of people in a day. Even making it in the musical business is a question of luck most of the time. Some really talented people never find their big break even if all the ingredients are there. And then someone with the same amount of talent, or star-quality or whatever will get a lucky break, will write a good song, will meet a good producer, etc. Even the professional singers (and if you're in a struggling indie band, how professionnal are you really?) have to start somewhere, that's why I was talking about them,

Maybe Katy's friends were as good as Kris. Maybe not. I still think it's unfair to her to say that she was putting down Kris by saying that. She was just saying that she knew that he got an amazing opportunity that other people she knew couldn't have.

Anyway, I'm dropping the subject now.

ETA:

Now picture all those people bopping to BWCU. Can't quite picture it, can ya?

What if I can?

Maybe but I've noticed Kris's family is always saying this stuff and it's very humble of them, but, also a little too annoyingly perfect. Can they show a little un-humble, normal "He's awesome" pride, once in a while? Can't she say, "The album is amazing, everyone needs to buy it? Excuse me, I know he's my husband but can I just say he's fantastic?" No wonder when he won AI he didn't have the confidence to accept it, and had to say "Adam deserves this." I'm sure he thought so. It's all they ever talk about, how great Adam is. Kris seriously lacks some confidence at times, and I think they don't necessarily discourage it. (And the chick needs to taking a cooking class., stat. What is that about? He has to do all the cooking and all the American Idol-ing? No wonder he looks exhausted.)

I'd actually love to see another live version of BWCU. I actually hope he plays it again live soon. Tommorrow, or in North Carolina or Orlando (it's Orlando he's going to right?) There is something I really like about it too. While he's doing it could he do I Need to Know and the Truth.. a little Red Guitar.. um, so yeah.. need more live Kris.

Well, Katy is trying to get a career for herself as well, no? She probably has other things on her mind than cooking as well.

Isn't it the Z100 jingle ball in the next few days? Tomorrow? Didn't Kris tweet about that today? Or Cale? I guess they didn't have time to arrange all the songs yet and they concentrated on a few of them, so maybe we won't hear them all before Christmas.

I was trying to make a case for AWM being the next single over BWCU.

Z100 ball is tomorrow !! :) So excited for Kris - this is a huge deal. The connections alone are priceless, with the other artists, and the radio station.

I'm totally on board with AWM being the next single. I've said it before. I'm just not dismissing BWCU. I love it and I think it's catchy and it's the one that's the most stuck in my head, but of course it's just my personal opinion.
