missaddicted, I did Google the single, and Z100. I ended up getting something about Rickey's blog. So I went there, after reading the headline that came up on Google. And I found more Rickey crap that made me pissed off!
Please buy Kris Allen's "Live Like We're Dying.
I don’t understand why Kris Allen’s new single “Live Like We’re Dying” isn’t selling that well on iTunes or Amazon.com. Is it really a bad first single? I think it is catchy — even though it’s unsingable after a first listen. (Can anybody really memorize the lyrics on one pass?)
The cynical part of me says: “Well if his fans weren’t busy attacking a certain blogger on Twitter and promoted the single a bit more maybe we could see better download numbers.” (Wink)
However… I’m just perplexed right now, and very sad.
For one thing, the single is not part of the Kris Allen iTunes Pass which was made available to fans after the finale. Are Kris Allen fans holding out for their copy and not buying the single? Or did most of them buy the single and it’s just not catching on to the general public?
If you are one of these people holding out, I think shelling out an extra $1.29 to help generate buzz for Kris on the charts shouldn’t be too much of a burden. I’ve been tracking the single on iTunes since it was released, and the highest it ever reached was #28 and right now it is at #66.
By comparison, and no this is not unfair. David Archuleta’s first single “Crush” climbed as high as #1 on iTunes. David Archuleta is on Jive Records just like Kris Allen. Similarly, David Cook’s first single “Light On” (and admittedly not as catchy as “Crush”) reached #3 on iTunes. David Cook won American Idol just like Kris Allen. “Crush” and “Light On” didn’t need any extra radio airplay to push them to the top of the charts.
Jordin Sparks’ first single “Tattoo” had about a month of radio airplay before it arrived on iTunes. The archives say it reached #18, but it could have been better. Kris Allen is more popular than Jordin right?
Is this all recession related? Are the Davids just more popular than the winner of Season 8? What’s going on? I’m so confused.
Personally, I think 19E should put Kris Allen’s face on one of the banners on top of iTunes. This will give the single a huge push. I don’t understand why they aren’t promoting Kris’ single a bit more.
11 more days and the album is finished! So exciting!
Under this, there was a comment by a Kris fan who used to post on mj's blog. She said the song is #27 on Z100's playlist. So what was the list I linked to? I have to assume she's probably right, but why isn't it listed?
In another comment (actually her first one), she wrote:
Rickey, Adam Lambert fans succeeded in damaging Kris’ single with their campaign of “it’s a cover, and it is just like the Script’s version”.
Of course, no one had ever heard of the Script’s version until they carpet bombed the internet and every music site with that bit of information.
Now, they are acting all innocent, in hopes of avoiding payback for Adam.
And, what damage they didn’t do, was finished off by you, when you declared Kris’ album to be cr*p.
IF Kris had any support from Jive, their PR people would be at work trying to undo that damage, but he has never had their support.
Well, let me see...I need to respond to that. But not on Rickey's blog.
A) I don't think "Adam's fans" can be blamed for Kris not selling a lot of singles. It's true what she says about some of these people carpet bombing the internet about the Script, and the cover, but I wouldn't call these people average Adam fans -- I mean, they are Adam fans, for sure, but they're
crazy people. Whoever they are, they also regularly go to every site and say Kris won because of cheating Arkansas voters. Do they do damage? Yeah, I think they do. I didn't actually think so, at first, but they never, ever let up. I mean, Kris won AI on May 20th. Why are they still at it? If nothing else, they take the joy out of everything.
There are a lot of them on mj's blog, as well. Of course, they're entitled to their opinions. But you have to wonder what makes them so hateful. It's pretty weird.
Like the examiner.com stuff, it's just wrong. This is somebody's career, and life, they're fooling with.
B) Rickey damaged Kris's sales? I doubt it. But he didn't help anything. He planted doubts. To what purpose, I don't know. Anyway, his blog post came out right after the single dropped, when there was a lot of poitive buzz, and he seemed to change the buzz. He also stole focus. Instead of the single, everyone was talking about Rickey. Great for Rickey.
C) This person is often negative about Kris having support from his label. I don't happen to think she's right about that. I don't know what they can do about crazy Adam fans trolling the internet. And what can they do about Rickey? Ignore it. Be above it. That's the right approach.
So I find some of this stuff interesting, but I can't point to any of it as being to blame for anything.
