Canadian Idol Fans Watching American Idol

Hey, I didn't mean to offend anybody. I've had this opinion for a while. It's not anything directed at David Cook. I don't know much about him. I was referring to the strategy Jemma mentioned. And yes it is brilliant. But I just was saying I can see why people would react with unhappiness if they backed someone and then were not allowed into their concerts.

The distancing from Idol fans, well I think they want to keep the ones that aren't crazy.

I'm not sure where that leaves me. lol

Yikes, Live Like We're Dying is #58 on iTunes. I think that radio station adding needs to happen, stat.

American Idol Rewind is on TV. I can't believe that show does well. Season 5 highlights.

How's that life-size scrapbook of Kris coming anyway?
(I kid, I kid.. yeah mine's not done either.. two pages to go!!!)

Also I think this is a gut reaction to getting older, on my part, Frankly.
Bah, humbug. I know the feeling.

The radio station adding won't happen right away.. I wish the itunes # was higher too. But, with zero promo.. it's gonna take awhile.

ETA: In-an-out burger is tweeting at David Cook and Andy.. lmao.

"I can actually see why those older women got pissed, though. I mean, the only reason the guy is even doing the concerts is because he won American Idol. And he won because these dedicated fans voted for him for hours every week. Then they're restricted from his concerts? Sorry, that doesn't sit well with me, I guess."

ross, from what I heard older fans weren't actually "banned" (except from the students-only NYU show), but the set-up used was to sell tickets directly to students first, with any leftovers being made available to the general public. I heard a lot of older fans still managed to see him at campus shows by buying tickets, at a premium, from students. They must have stood out like sore thumbs though. David also did a few other largish shows (one at the casino in Niagara Falls, NY) that weren't targeted specifically to students.

I don't think he's ungrateful for the support he received, but I gather there were some unpleasant incidents for him on the AI tour involving older ladies and his management decided to go the college route to help him develop a younger fan base and to maybe discourage the intrusive, fanatic types and to prevent a Clay Aiken-like cult from taking root. Unfortunately, the strategy also punished the "normal" older fans. From the perspective of someone who isn't all that young anymore, I totally understand, and now that a show is coming to me in the future, all is forgiven.

I just found an article about some of Kalan Porter's fans that was published by the CBC about a year after he won idol. I remember reading it in horror a few years ago. It speaks to what we've been discussing.

OMG, LMAO here!

Hey ross, you didn't offend at all. Of course, I'm a bit protective of David so I react on instinct! It's just that I don't think the college strategy was meant as a distancing mean for him and his team, more like a mean to reach new fans as was mentionned. And the fanbase was not left out, don't be worried. The more devoted fans have seem plenty of shows... some have probably even seen too many, but that's just my opinion.

I hope I haven't scared off Jemma. Jemma, I'm a ranter. I'm just like that. Eep. Guess you know that already.

missaddicted, well, you know me by now, too. :)

My scrapbook is okay, but the life-size Adam cut-out in my bedroom signed by the entire cast of The Zodiac Show is getting a little frayed around the edges.

Oops, Jemma left. :( Um...8O...let's see. Well, I'm not real happy about that #58 on iTunes. I think it's kind of disastrous. I mean, it is what it is. I'm no longer optimistic. I've lost all my optimism about it. I don't see this thing climbing so far back with airplay that it becomes a hit. I'm pessimistic. In case you didn't notice. I'm giving up on it.

I'm never like that, so I don't know why I'm like that today. But it's pretty disheartening. I'll tell you what's funny. I expected a fair-sized hit that the critics and bloggers would hate. Instead, we have kind of a critical hit that the public doesn't seem to want to buy in large numbers so far.

Then again, I guess everyone who has had the chance to hear it, and wants to buy it, has bought or is buying it. And there are still many people (all the non-fans of AI) who have never had the chance to hear it. When they do get the chance, will it make a difference?

Stop hugging it goodnight. How are you going to sell that puppy on ebay?

Kris gained like 200 twitter followers yesterday. I guess people don't like kangaroos.

You guys are on fire! I should turn off my computer and grade those papers, but how can I leave?

I don't think Jemma left because of anything you said ross. It's probably my fault, with all these videos... takes time to digest.

LOL at the twitter thing with the burger place!

LOL. No, they love kangaroos. For dinner. They're delicious. (Yikes.) Poor Skippy.
Skippy, The Bush Kangaroo. (Dating myself, again. Old kids' TV show.)

Um, yeah, Kris's burgeoning list of followers is encouraging. Despite my new total pessimism (see above).

Of course there is! If the song is not playing that much on the radio yet, it cannot be expected to sell that much yet. People have to be exposed to it before wanting to buy it. If Z100 added it to its playlist, that's a good thing. Other radio stations will follow.

I don't know, I'm neither that optimistic or that pessimistic, but I think it's too early for complete pessimism yet. Don't give up hope ross!

ETA: I know Skippy too. It was still playing in the '80s.

I'm an optimist. I think Kris will always start slow, it's just his nature.

Optimisim 101

1. Kris has never played the song live.
2. Kris will play it live.
3. It will be added to radio stations. It just will.
4. It will be played on GMA the morning his CD comes out.
5. Kris will do press.
6. Radio people will LOVE Kris. How can they not? Unless they are in the Kangaroo fan club.. in which case.. big mistake Kris, BIG. MISTAKE.

I'm not really pessimistic. I was just sort of kidding, maybe, I don't know. I am getting a bit pessimistic, but, no, I haven't given up. I just literally cannot stand the wait. #AdamIsWorthWaitingFor, but Kris is beginning to annoy me! lol

I mean, if a song is on the list at all, that's good. Is Jason Castro even on there any more? The thing is, these labels invest heavily, and I'm pretty sure they're going to try to get back their investment. And then Kris, laid back though he may be, is still going to do everything he can to publicize it. If only he had a boyfriend he could make out with publicly at a Pink concert. That might help.

Well, yeah you are.

LMAO!!!! I'm still laughing. (Um. It was a joke? Right?)

I remember Skippy too. But, I'm sure I watched him yesterday on youtube...

Not.

This 20Q thing is funny. It amuses me for the computer to keep trying to guess Kris Allen. Sometimes it even actually does.

20Q.net Inc.

ETA: Does that sound obsessive? 'Cause I'm thinking it does .. lol
