In an interview with People.com, Adam Lambert revealed details of his upcoming debut album. According to the Idol runner-up, the debut will be “quite eclectic.” Says Lambert, “There are songs on there that are anthems; there are songs that make you want to dance; there are songs that make you feel sexy; there are songs that touch you, hopefully, with more emotional, insightful, deeper lyrics…There are songs that are more in the line with a rock sound. There are some that are really pop-oriented.” Lambert has already made headway on the album—the singer says he’s halfway finished with the record, and has already done a photo shoot. “I can’t wait to see people’s reaction. It’s just going to be fun,” he told People.com.

I don't really get why they are going this route for Adam. As someone in the comments under this article wrote, the Idol albums that try to have something for everyone are usually the worst.

I didn't know anything about Idol a couple of years ago so all this is new to me, but I remember people saying Kalan's first CD was "a typical Idol album" in the way it had various styles and songs, and this was not a good thing.

I have that album of Kalan's somewhere. I don't think I ever really listened to it after. It was really my Mom's - lol. But it didn't inspire me to break it out again. She was a bit bewildered by all the violin.

I really liked Kris's idea of having one producer for the album, but who even knows what his album will be like. I have hopes that it will be good but - ugh.. the first idol albums so rarely are. I hate to build up my hopes. Can't seem to help it though. argh.

I don't know about Adam's album at all. It seems like Adam could go in so many different directions musically, but each direction he goes in will fracture his fanbase a little. Would the majority of the fanbase follow him to dance music? I don't know. Maybe his album really will be more straight up mainstream top 40 pop.

Although if he's working with Jarvis Church I'm so in. Philosopher Kings FTW.

Oh, what the hell, let's be hopeful for Kris's CD. Adam's fans are expecting Grammys.

I can’t wait until his CD comes out and I don’t care what type of music he chooses to sing on it because any sound out of his mouth is perfect, to me. However, I think it is going to be a huge best selling CD and will be up for several Grammy Awards especially Best New Artist, mark my words.

Adam can do anything! has anyone seen him live>>OMG he tore the roof off the Prudential Center. It was obvious that the show belonged to him and ONLY him. His set of 5 or so songs seemed that it lasted only 5 seconds!! the audience went WILD for the WILD IDOL.

Grammy, shmammy. I want an Oscar. And a World Music award. And something really big and shiny.

Lots of cheers for Kris tonight. Lots. Hard to tell underwater like this, but it sounds like the crowd is singing along loudly to ATTID.

How's about the Chrysler Building?

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of Adam's fans don't really care what he sings.
Somebody made the comment under this article that he could sing nursery rhymes and she wouldn't care. Musically, I don't think they're the most discriminating audience, for some reason. Do you sense that? I wonder what kind of music they actually listened to before Adam came along? Probably not Jason Mraz.

In this case I'm really not trying to sound snarky. I've just never known a singer who could conquer all genres, or has. Kind of a jack of all genres, master of none.

Where was the cellcast tonight? I looked on Rickey's but didn't see anything. Is there somewhere I should be looking I'm not?

But would it fit on the mantel?

I don't really know, but I would guess that a lot of the hysterical fans will move on eventually (of everyone). It's hard to maintain hysteria forever - you just get tired. You have things to do.. lol. It will eventually come back to the music.

ross, would the comments you posted from MJ's blog?

My advice really means a lot to you, doesn't it?

Heh!

They were comments from the article about Adam's album, and also from the EW.com recap of the article. NOT from mj's blog. :p See, I listened to you!

LOL. Good!

They're probably from the same people that hang out at MJ's though. Must distribute the Adam mania evenly between all the media outlets!

And I agree that it'll come back to the music one day. For example, If I didn't like the music on David's record, I wouldn't be willing to rent a car and drive to Nowhere, NY to see him perform it live. I would have just tossed the CD aside (well, toss the digital songs aside, whatever that may mean) and probably wouldn't really care about him anymore. But I do.

Maybe I should just stop reading everything. ;-)

Good point. Still, maybe the Adam thing is different. I think with him and his fans it's about performance. I've never felt the CD is so important to his appeal.

Well, yeah. Reading's not good for you, whatever your parents and teachers may tell you!

Maybe you're right. But he doesn't have a CD out right now. When the CD is out, it'll be a bit different, I think. The music will have to appeal to other people outside his obsessed fanbase. He'll have to gain new fans based on his music and in the long-term, I think what SleepinIn said is right. Obsessions don't last, not at the level that it is right now. Maybe for a few people, but not all. They could discover a shiny new toy in a few months and become obsessed with something else. Adam will keep these people interested because of his music (and his live shows too of course). That's what I think anyway.

Funny article!!!

Second article: Also good. I think I have come up with a new drinking game. Every time Kris says "Adam" in an interview...

Stop the vote-splitting! No more Theo votes! Concentrate on Kris! Kris must conquer the twitterverse!!!

Maxwell's House: you said it. Hilarious. Especially the end. Megan's Little Orphan Annie hairdo is different, huh? Do you think she knows what she's doing, and people will some day love her for her 'Quirkiness' TM , or is she just a goofy, self-sabotaging dufus? (Hey, just askin'.)

Castro's song has a lot of those wrong-syllable things. You know how, in a song, the emphasis is supposed to land on same syllable as when you're speaking? Like, "baby." It's BA-by, when you say it. The song is written so that it's Ba-BY. There are a ton of those in the song. I can't believe a pro songwriter wrote it (I don't think Jason wrote it, or, I heard he didn't).
