Rewatching it now. The nice thing is how Adam, who must be hugely disappointed (I assume - I don't know), looks sincerely happy for Kris. I mean, they always do, in this case, but he really does. So do a lot of the rest of them.
You guys are right. Simon did stand - then he sat down.
Kris did get very emotional, once his wife came onstage.
Is it common for the host to bring back the No. 2 guy for a bow after the Idol is announced? Maybe because Kris was so tongue-tied? Ryan announced "Adam Lambert!" brought him out again, said, "Two superstars, Adam Lambert and Your New Idol, Kris Allen!" Then they stood there together. I thought that was a bit unusual.
Is this really "a total upset?" (As they just said on my local news.) Was he really "the underdog?" Ryan actually called him the underdog, tonight. I mean, he wasn't a producers'/judges' favorite, but he apparently was always an audience favorite, as far as we know. He and Adam were only in the bottom three one time, the same night, and that's it. Otherwise, they've both advanced the exact same way and both ended up in the top 2. How is that an underdog? If he was, the show made him one, not us. Or tried to make him one.
Well, I guess that's the story for all time, now. The underdog who came from behind and won.
I read a great article (that I can't find now, it was from a southern newspaper) by a guy who did all kinds of research, and he determined from everything like iTunes and WhatNotToSing opinions that actually Adam and Kris have always been the frontrunners and Danny was not. Danny had few top-rated preformances and few high-selling songs on iTunes, for instance. Etc. It was interesting.
"Heartless" (live version) supposedly has over a million YouTube hits. I have to check that out.
