Kris Allen rocking a cover of Kanye's Heartless #redwhiteandboom on Twitpic

"Red, White, and Boom" is a radio concert, I think. Kind of poorly attended by the looks of it. Is it me or is Tuesday at 6:30pm not a good time for KAB to play? On a weekday people are at work until 5 or 6, then in traffic. Or eating supper.

That's great about Kris performing for the troops. Iraq or Afghanistan, supposedly. For a week or so.

Re: Alex lambert shooting a video: It's funny but I'm already pretty tired of Alex's singing voice. I guess for me he doesn't wear well. It's just that the more I hear, the less I can tolerate it. His tone was interesting and different, at first, but it's more obvious now how nasal and strangulated-sounding it is, to me.

What was Shirley Jones doing on IICD?

#Redwhiteandboom looks like #redwhiteandbust unless a heck of a lot of people show up for Counting Crows that concert is a wash. Ah, well. They still get paid and they're off the stage early. But, yeah the Tuesday after a holiday weekend at 6:30 pm is not exactly a prime spot.

I still like Alex's voice, it's sometimes just Alex I have a problem with. :) Not that I hate him or anything or think he's a douche like the familiar refrain at Mj's, I just think he's a bit pesty at times, like a teenager should be, but someone you're watching on TV/computer shouldn't be. He's getting a lot of opportunities and I think he's taking advantage of them. He's not really shy, he just got nervous on tv. Anyway I still like his voice.. so far. (although I haven't finished that Hulu episode).

Hedley's new single is Hands Up. Which I wasn't sure about since it wasn't a song I really listened to on their album, but it looks like a fun song live.

A white guy, with a guitar, in a plaid shirt? BORING!!!

Alex...I said what I said because his singing made me turn off that episode of IICD.
For me, dawg, that just doesn't quite cut it, know what I'm sayin? I wish him the best.

I don't know about the whole "he's just a kid" thing, which everyone says about him. I think it's more "he's just Alex." You know? Because 19 is an age when a lot of people are already in college, or the Navy, or whatever.

Jacob reminds me of Dave Matthews in that clip, for some reason.

I have to be honest, I'm kinda meh on a lot of Hedley's new music. It doesn't seem to have the passion or something. Some of it sounds a little like retreads. It's a bit bland. Did Jacob write with the usual people? Was Dave Genn still involved? I haven't heard it all. Also, I still like Hedley but I think a little something gets lost in this arena atmospere. Have you noticed this or am I crazy? Jacob performing for a big crowd becomes sort of an impersonal showman. Or maybe he's just getting older, because some of the things that made me love him are missing. I don't know what.

Sorry, I'm not being too positive tonight!

Ha! Good point.

A white guy, with a guitar, in a plaid shirt? BORING!!!

Give me a guy (any colour) with a guitar and I'm a happy peep. You really couldn't pay me to listen to Diva type singing for any length of time. So whatever to the whiners. Long live the guitar, and bring on the plaid.

Or maybe he's just getting older, because some of the things that made me love him are missing. I don't know what.

I like a lot of the ballads but cha-ching got old fast for me and Don't Talk to Strangers did too. Perfect I like, and the Sweater Song, and I never really listened to Hands Up, but I do like the live version I posted as a crowd participation song. It puzzled me that they released it as a single though, can't deny it.

Why did you make the Navy in boldface? lol. Just struck you as funny.

You know, when I was a kid I really loved Bruce Springsteen in a huge way, but almost as soon as he got really, unversally popular, I lost interest. It wasn't the fact that he was more popular that made me lose interest. Something changed in his music. It was this slight change that probably made him more popular. But not with me, I guess.

I think I like all types. Probably not into the divas a lot. But I just try to keep an open mind about types. I might dislike five divas and like the sixth one. Or I might like some singer-songwriters and not others. I have no idea what I like. When I see/hear it, I know it, that's all.

Cha-Ching and Don't Talk To Strangers...

When did Jacob start writing such easy-to-understand lyrics? Even Perfect. Have you ever listened to the lyrics of "Gunnin"? They don't really tell a story. They don't make a lot of sense. It's more like poetry. Even For The Nights I Can't Remember. Look at the lyrics. It's not necessarily easy to interpret.

Yep. You were right, as much as Alex being young explains his behaviour it doesn't really excuse it. There are younger folk that aren't acting like that. I'll probably still give him the benefit of the doubt for awhile, everyone's different afterall.

Music is so subjective really, there's no real reason why certain songs speak to you and others don't and everything is valid if it speaks to you. From the cheesiest pop song to the Melismia filled ballad if it clicks with you it clicks.

What about this?

Hedley - Lost in a Field of Flowers Called Empty tekst piosenki, t?umaczenie piosenki, teledysk

Now he writes stuff like:

You're amazing. you're amazing and its true
No one can save me, no one can save me like you do
If this is crazy, yeah its crazy but its true
So baby save me, baby save me like you do

(!)

Taylor Hicks is appearing here:

Jonathan's

I know where this restaurant is. It's about an hour and a half from here, and about 20-30 minutes from where I went on vacation last year.

Hedley releases so many singles. They've already released four from this album, right? Cha- Ching, Don't Talk To Strangers, Perfect, and now Hands Up. They've had a lot of singles from each album, haven't they? Why don't more bands do this?

---------

Kris didn't get too many adds today (if that report of adds is accurate).

Someone is translating for him. :) I've read his twitter and his blog. He doesn't really write like that. I don't know who wrote the lyrics.. but I'm thinking he didn't. Maybe he did.. but I think not.

Lots of singles. Probably because they're on the radio ALL THE TIME. Not even kidding I just looked and today CHUM played Hands Up, Perfect, For the Nights I Can't Remember, Never Too Late and Cha-Ching. And Perfect gets played every hour or so. Seriously. They may be only on Canadian stations but we overplay the crap out of them. Even I recognize that. :) I like them, but I don't need every song they've ever produced in a day.

I think more bands should release more singles.. it's probably cost prohibitive to promote though.. hmmm.

Just 3 ads for Kris. I was glad to see them though, I was afraid there weren't going to be any.

It's weird. I read a lot of stuff that says The Truth is successful, that it's getting a lot of spins. But then I read, on MJ's, Kristen saying it's stalling and in trouble. Adam's song seems to have gotten a lot of adds this week. I heard it on the radio, as I said, and I think it's kind of, crap.

I feel Kris was getting a lot of ... I don't know, momentum, or something, out of LLWD, but with The Truth, I don't know what will happen. I don't want him to lose that momentum. I also can't tell how many singles he's actually selling because of the two versions. I want to be optimistic. I think he has several potential singles on that album and while that's a good song I wonder why they thought it would be a big hit. Maybe I'm being premature.

I wonder what his video will do to promote the song?

CHUM plays a LOT of Hedley. Wow. I know they have the Canadian Content rule, but...wow.

I clicked your link to the radio station and they're playing LLWD (not that I can hear it.. but it's written there) :)

I love that photo too. I'm glad Kris is getting some Friend and family time. I wonder if Katy is travelling with them for awhile?

I was just watching Casey at a live thing he did - am I dreaming or are they all doing more small things outside of the Idol tour? Didn't they use to put a moratorium on that until after the tour? Anyway, watching that, I'm wondering if Casey might be the one to break out from season 9 and not Lee, Crystal or Alex. He needs the right material, but he's talented.

YouTube - Live Nation: American Idol's Casey James Private Show, "Jealous Guy" (John Lennon Cover)

But anyway, maybe they will all put out really good stuff. That would be a nice vindication for a lack-lustre season. :wav:

What? Did someone here really say Casey is good, or am I imagining it? [/snark]

I like him, but mainly I just recognized his talent during the season - I mean, I'm not especially a huge fan, personally. I feel he's a really good musician, and his singing -- like it for being spare, economical. not showboaty. It's like how some musicians play. It's refreshing. There's a lot of space. A feeling of the rhythm of the song. He doesn't need to fill in all the spaces. There can be spaces.

When did he do this "side" gig?

Malibu looks pretty.

I liked his naturalness here. Ultimately his music might not be by thing, but there is an ease to it.

Or I could just be blinded by the plaid and guitar. :)

Not sure about the when.

Sorry didn't refresh. I think you know now the cellcasts both died - right?

They were pretty underwater before they went too. Not that clear.

Yeah, now I know they both died.

So, SleepinIn, if you don't mind answering - what was Shirley Jones on IICD for? Just to give them advice from an old pro, or what? I can't sit through that show, maybe you did? I like her. A couple of years ago a really good community theatre around here (a semi-pro theatre, I think), the Reagle Players, in Waltham, MA, asked her to play Nettie in "Carousel" -- the (supporting) character who sings "You'll Never Walk Alone." (She was in the original film of Carousel, in the lead, when she was young.) And she accepted, and was in the show. It was a big deal. I think she came back and did another show there, also.

I didn't finish watching it either. *sheepish grin* But, yeah just to give the two people studying acting some insight into the acting profession. (As far as I can tell) It was Shirley and her husband, they seemed nice.
