But have they asked about the next single?

What next single? Don't you know he's probably not getting a second single? You haven't been reading there much, have you?

I think Kris would have rather have gone to Haiti and met up with the UN folk. It's more Kris somehow. Plus they didn't have Idol Gives back last year so it was nice for David to get a chance to share his experience.

I'm going back to your comment from a couple of pages back because I was just re-reading the thread.

I think we've forgotten something. Didn't the woman who represents the UNF's efforts in Haiti say more than once that Kris's Haiti footage would be seen on the IGB special? I'm certain she did.

Yes, it's true they didn't have IGB last year, so David, the reigning Idol then, didn't get to share his experiences because of that. But they had it this year, and Kris, the reigning Idol now, didn't get to share his experiences. What's the excuse?

She did say that they would use the footage for IGB, but clearly the Idol show itself thought having Kris on a few weeks before to 'kick it off' -- and then never mention it again was good enough. I don't get the logic myself. It didn't make sense to me then and it doesn't make sense to me now. They didn't have to even play the song again.. just mention that you can buy it on itunes. Plus it was only available in the US. You could buy David's Jumping Jack Flash.. but not Let It Be. It's very odd IMO.

And Crystal's People Get Ready as the best Idol song of ALL TIME? Have they lost their minds? LOL It was good, I'll give them that.

Well, you know, he did, earlier in the season. Of course, I would have wanted for them to show more of his footage or to talk more about Haiti last night, but he did actually appear on the show to share his experience. I don't think they asked David to do it because he was the reigning Idol the year before when there was no IGB. David said that he told the producers two years ago that he would be really happy to be involved in IGB and I think they knew that he would be a good spokesman for the cause, so that's why they invited him this year. And it isn't only the reigning Idols who participate in IGB, Elliot appeared at least twice and Daughtry went to Africa for IGB in season 7 for example.

That I still don't understand. I just checked and they put the stuff from last night for sale in the Canadian iTunes store, why not Let It Be?

And Crystal's performance was NOT the best Idol performance of all time. I read the articles but I'm not sure where that came from? They say that just because they did a little unofficial poll on their website?

They say that just because they did a little unofficial poll on their website?

They also didn't include certain songs on the poll. They were just stirring up the pot. Trenyce? Really? Clay's Build Me Up Buttercup? Really? Maybe I'm just a hater, lol. But that list is whack.

Crystal Bowersox, "People Get Ready" 31%
Jason Castro, "Hallelujah" 8%
Trenyce, "Proud Mary" <1%
Jordin Sparks, "I (Who Have Nothing)" 2%
David Cook, "Billie Jean" 17%
Fantasia Barrino, "Summertime" 9%
Carrie Underwood, "Alone" 9%
Kelly Clarkson, "Stuff Like That There" 7%
Bo Bice, "In a Dream" 3%
Melinda Doolittle, "My Funny Valentine" 3%
Tamyra Gray, "A House Is Not a Home" 1%
Clay Aiken, "Build Me Up Buttercup" 10%

Actually, even when Kris was on the show to talk about Haiti, he only spoke very briefly, and they only showed the footage on a screen behind him as he sang. No one really went into any detail about Haiti, no "story" was done about it, even then. IGB really ignored it.

Anyhow my point back there was that at some point they must have been going to include the Haiti footage on the show, or the UNF wouldn't have said to look for it. So that's weird, and it also must have been disappointing to them since they expected to get the publicity.

I don't know why LIB wasn't available in Canada, but don't you guys think there must have been some reason, like copyright issues?

I don't know for sure, but I don't think so. I mean, you can buy Katie Stevens's version of Let It Be on iTunes (in Canada) right now. Would it be different for Kris's version?

Yeah, they really did.

I have a copy of Jennifer Hudson's version of Let It Be from the Hope for Haiti Now telethon. Clearly they worked something out for that. Anyway, I just downloaded the video from youtube and donated directly to the UN. It's just an odd way to fundraise don't you think?

Probably not. So why do you think it wasn't available?

I don't really understand how to read that WNTS list of songs, but where's Heartless?
Heartless was one of the great Idol moments, and it ranked higher on itunes than Mad World, but I don't see it near the top of that list. But I'm tired. :(

The thing about Haiti... Do you think the money made during IGB goes to that cause? Well, in part probably since the UN Foundation is one of the beneficiaries. I was just wondering because I read that this year, they were donating more money to causes in the US, like Save the Children and the food band, etc, compared to what they were doing before. They said that the majority of the money would go to those causes and not for causes in Africa, etc. I don't know, I'm just trying to understand why they wouldn't have talked about it last night. It's not like Haiti is not in need of money and assistance anymore.

I really have no clue why it wasn't made available. Absolutely none!

Do you guys remember Kris saying that when he chose the song, he and Cale went to the person in charge of clearing songs for AI, and Kris said that it was very hard and that she had to pull some strings, but she managed to do it?

That's what led me to believe it was a song that may have had some issues. I don't get why Katie's version was available on iTunes in Canada, though, except she's not a Jive recording artist, or managed by 19 -- just an Idol contestant with out a record contract -- and that's where the legal issues might come in. Who knows? Remember the legal problems that were going to prevent Kris from performing in Arkansas a while ago? There are all sorts of legal issues sometimes that prevent things from happening. Just a guess, of course. I also think they may not have been able to promote the song more because maybe Kris has contractual tie-ups involving how often he can perform for entities other than Jive -- or something like that.

If you check the second link, it's there. It had an original rating of 85 and was upgraded to an 87 (just like the first version of Ain't No Sunshine and also SWHFTM). Of course, these are just ratings calculated by them based on a lot of different media reviews they're not an absolute objective method to rank the performances. While I would argue that Heartless would deserve a better ranking, I still like their method.

ETA: Where WNTS takes the opinions to base their ratings on:

WhatNotToSing.com performance ratings are based entirely on publicly-posted opinions we find on the World Wide Web. They come from blogs, newspaper articles, and forums; from message boards, roundtables, chat room logs, online polls and feeds of every type imaginable. Some have dubbed this virtual world of American Idol fans "The Idolsphere".

A small minority of these sources are websites dedicated solely to Idol. A larger number are general forums for television shows in general, and reality shows in particular. Most, however, are websites that have nothing to do with Idol whatsoever, and this is by design. We strive for the widest possible sampling of opinions, not just those of the show's most rabid fans. We've pulled opinions from hobby sites dedicated to, among other things, ice skating, snorkeling, scrapbooking, hunting, photography, movies, Disney, travel, and video games. We've pulled them from religous sites, kids' sites, military sites, ethnic sites, activist sites, senior citizens' sites, networking sites, tech sites, and sports sites — you'd be surprised and perhaps encouraged at how well Idol ties America together. We've pulled opinions from viciously partisan political blogs of both wings, sometimes holding our noses until we get to the page with the information we need. (Like the Army motto goes: get in, get the job done, get out.) Thanks to search engines like Google and Yahoo!, a few simple search terms are all it takes to produce hundreds of results in places we'd otherwise never dream of looking.

It's all very peculiar.
