Well, that's easy. Why do people like Steve Martin and Queen Latifah want to be on Idol? It's a ratings monster and pop culture phenomenon. It gets the eyeballs to the tv's and everyone talks about it regardless of whether or not they actually watch it. So Danny's playing in front of a potential audience of millions, so no matter what he decides to do musically he's going to grow his audience.

That's a good point, SleepinIn. Personally I think his main goal is to promote the Sophia's Heart foundation. Anyhow, you can go on Idol for whatever reason you want.
I was thinking more about what would have happened if he'd won. I think he wanted to, and TPTB wanted him to, at least at the beginning. So I think it would have been strange for someone who's not interested in pop to end up winning a pop singing competition and getting a pop recording contract. Wonder if that even occurred to him. You'd think it would have occurred to TPTB.
The interview: I thought Slezak asked good questions, but I didn't care about the answers! Danny basically drives me nuts with his half-formed ideas, and pseudo-inspirational, self-actualizing gibberish. Watching that interview, I didn't see the evil creep that people have sometimes made him out to be. More just a dufus. Well...something less harmless than a dufus. "Creepy dufus," maybe. I mean, he seems unsophisticated, but that doesn't excuse all of it.
Seeing the clip of the duet with Kris just pissed me off all over again. Up till rock week, I never had anything against him, but seeing him singing out to the audience while his duet partner struggled to engage him in a duet: I never had any respect for him after that. One reason I loved the Kris-Keith Urban duet was that it was the opposite of the Kris-Danny duet. Because Urban has class and Kris has class and Danny has none.
He managed to say some nice things about Adam that seemed sincere. I think they have some big philosophical differences but why shouldn't they? They didn't ask to be thrown together.

Yes, yes it is!!! I love how they all feel like they can be really honest with Slezak, and Kris was certainly no exception!
Great interview. Kris is cool. He seems mature, and smart. And confident. And just a nice guy without overdoing it or being "too" nice. And he seems to really take the time to listen. It's not all about him. The clips were interwoven well, the whole thing illustrated well why Kris got to the top. Slezak was back to the lovable guy of a few weeks ago. I really like him.

I think our bud Adam can be a bit of a loose cannon. Sort of. Not bad, but he doesn't always "take the high road," like in the Clay Aiken thing. He came back with a few zingers and I thought, "Whoa, bitchfight."
MSNBC came out with this thing which isn't flattering to A.L. Don't know if I believe it or not.

mj's blog had some video of Kris performing at the Walmart shareholder's meeting, but the sound sucked. I found this on YouTube -- just a home video, but much better sound.

If you go here Wal-Mart Shareholders' Meeting 2009 you can watch the whole darn thing. (good god) Forward to 3:30 and catch the Smokey Robinson duet with Kris. Kris was having a lot of fun, he really feels the music.

I hope it goes better for Kris than it did for Cook last year. Boy, did he seem nervous. He didn't sound so good either, which surprising for him.

It's nice, my iTunes just downloaded an autographed picture of Kris that came with the Kris Allen iTunes Pass. It's the same picture from the cover of the No Boundaries single. And all I can decipher from his signature is A big "K" and two "L".
Yeah, Sunday 8pm. The Star Spangled Banner is hard to sing. I'm sure he'll do a good job. Some people (Jennifer Hudson?) make a big production out of it but I really don't enjoy those versions.

I loved the Access interviews, I've never even seen the one with Billy Bush. So that was cool. I think that's the most I've heard from Katy ever- and I totally don't believe the Diva rumours about Adam either.
If there is one thing that is apparent it's that Adam and Kris are pretty honest decent guys, to me that comes across in every interview that they've given since the finale. Bar none. You couldn't have asked for better from them.
Is it wrong to say that although I think Kris is a very good looking guy that I really have no need for a giant photo of him downloaded from Itunes? LOL -- itunes think music. I need music, maybe a video.... I now have a giant pdf of Kris. What the hell do I do with it?
It will be interesting to hear Kris sing the anthem.. I always cringe just a little bit for them since no one is really paying any attention to the anthem singer in the stadium.. or I don't anyway. It's a rough gig. But on the other hand.. lots of people are almost watching and listening to you.

I've also been meaning to post this for a long time. It's actually unflattering to Kris and to Canadian Idol, but if you read the whole article, the guy still manages to say some interesting things. (By the way, a lot of the so-called "red states," in the deep south, were supposedly in Adam's corner, and DialIdol GeoPredcitions, I noticed, backed that up. Kris often won his home state and Texas, but Adam usually won Alabama, Tennessee, etc.)
