I have a story to share. ross, you may not like all of it since it shows once again how Adam's recognition might go beyong the usual Idol borders.
I admitted to a friend today that I would be seeing Cook live twice in the next two weeks (and that I would have to drive 3 hours to go to one of these shows!). She and I have some musical tastes in common (I'm going to see Metric with her and another friend October 17), but she's already "laughed" at some of my preferences and she's a bit of a music snob sometimes (said with affection). So I was kinda nervous about admitting that I was going to see an American Idol winner twice. She would never watch AI, like NEVER. After she wondered if she knew him (I don't think she did, except that I might have mentionned him before), I said something like: "Oh, yeah, he won American Idol. But he's good!!!". And she said that she didn't doubt it, that she had respect for some of the Star Académie contestants that she knew, that they could actually be good. Then she said: "oh yeah, wasn't there a guy that was pretty different this year, a bit like Freddy Mercury?". I was a bit surprised that she kind of knew about him (she didn't know his name though), since we rarely hear about AI here in Québec, but still it kinda shows that people totally outside of the AI bubble are already somewhat aware about him.
Anyway, I quickly told her that I didn't like him that much, that I prefered the guy that had actually won. So, yeah, I confessed to her that I was actually watching AI. She didn't really look surprised though, LOL. I guess I was nervous for nothing, she thought it was great actually that I would go to the two shows and that it was a great way not to think about work, which is pretty crazy right now!
