Wow ross, you're catching up on all the posting you couldn't do yesterday! Thanks for the links.

I love the great reviews. About the promotion, I did ask myself the question if it was getting enough promotion, but really, I think it's way too early to tell. It took a LONG time for Light On to get going last year, but it's still sold platinum. It's a good thing if a single as a long life... of course for that it has to start playing on more and more radio stations. We'll see, it's still early.

I had a whole post written about why I always knew Adam would open HUGE, but I lost it.. ack! Grr.

My point was that Adam was featured on the cover of Entertainment Weekly and Rollingstone, (and they did an interview with him on 20/20 (!)). Neither of which had him on the cover because of his music. Maybe they would've - but the fact is that they didn't - the covers were for another reason. Which isn't to say that I don't believe that he is wildly talented - because I do, but so is Kris in a completely different way. But all that exposure + the fact that he lost to Kris when the judges were practically standing on their heads for him.. that creates it's own energy. So, yes, if he didn't end up at #1 on Amazon it would have been shocking.

Kris has always started slowly. But he's a steady kind of flame, and not an explosion. So I'm not surprised that he didn't hit number 1 on Amazon either. Then again, the itunes pass sold okay when it was released - presummer.

I'm seriously, getting sick of the people who's sole purpose in life seems to be to post negative things about Kris. It's insane. Why waste your life on negativity?

but the tweets from Kris and David.. ? PURE GOLD.

and promotion.. I agree it's early. Kris isn't even finished the album, he's got to do that before any more promotion IMHO. He's going to be at that Bosom ball thing WITH the Script.. kinda like to be at that one. Then he's got the winery thing, and GMA.. It's early. I'll beat them up later.

Haha. You're welcome, missaddicted. The trouble is, I've just been looking at this stuff whenever I get a free moment, so when I go back to add something to my post I've passed the 1-hour limit and have to do a new post.

I was just reading a post on KrisAllenation about Jive mis-handling things (I guess it was taken from some other forum?). I guess some of the points are valid, but possibly they're waiting for a full week in order to promo it properly. I doubt they wouldn't want to do that. I mean, you don't send the guy to London to work on his CD on the one hand, and on the other, not promote him. 'Cause that makes no sense.

Kris Allen Fan Community

SleepinIn, that sucks you lost your post! I hate when that happens.

I know what you're saying. If the judges had even acted once like Kris deserved to be where he was, that would have meant so much more publicity and validation for him. And yes, losing when you're "supposed" to win does create its own kind of energy.

The Rolling Stone stuff is like money in the bank. (It doesn't seem too fair, and their need to almost ignore Kris when the two of them were performing together suggests an agenda. But, can't do much about that.) Name recognition and free publicity are so important. Outside of the idol world, hardly anyone even knows who Kris is. A lot of the same people don't know who Adam is, either, but I'd have to say more do, overall, due to RS and also the entertainment-news shows he apparently has been on a lot (I don't watch them).

OH!! And Billboard's newest issue has a whole thing (practically the whole magazine) devoted to the best promotion for your songs. Jive might want to buy a copy. :) Maybe we should send them one. lol.

But Kris is mentioned in the "Have your songs covered on Idol" section. Apparently, Kris covering Kanye increased Kanye's song's sales by like 69% and increased the sales of the Fray's cover by like 300%. I don't know if they meant it negatively or not by the way they worded it, but that says to me that Kris made a big impact with that song.

They also mentioned Adam - I think it was in the Be on the cover of a magazine. section.

AND.. another thing. lol I was ramdomly looking up Hedley's Cha-ching.. I do that sometimes... bored, bored, bored. And I found it on a playlist for a station in BALI - it was like # 14 or something. Kris was mentioned in the new releases.. kinda made me happy. :)

I have a story to share. ross, you may not like all of it since it shows once again how Adam's recognition might go beyong the usual Idol borders.

I admitted to a friend today that I would be seeing Cook live twice in the next two weeks (and that I would have to drive 3 hours to go to one of these shows!). She and I have some musical tastes in common (I'm going to see Metric with her and another friend October 17), but she's already "laughed" at some of my preferences and she's a bit of a music snob sometimes (said with affection). So I was kinda nervous about admitting that I was going to see an American Idol winner twice. She would never watch AI, like NEVER. After she wondered if she knew him (I don't think she did, except that I might have mentionned him before), I said something like: "Oh, yeah, he won American Idol. But he's good!!!". And she said that she didn't doubt it, that she had respect for some of the Star Académie contestants that she knew, that they could actually be good. Then she said: "oh yeah, wasn't there a guy that was pretty different this year, a bit like Freddy Mercury?". I was a bit surprised that she kind of knew about him (she didn't know his name though), since we rarely hear about AI here in Québec, but still it kinda shows that people totally outside of the AI bubble are already somewhat aware about him.

Anyway, I quickly told her that I didn't like him that much, that I prefered the guy that had actually won. So, yeah, I confessed to her that I was actually watching AI. She didn't really look surprised though, LOL. I guess I was nervous for nothing, she thought it was great actually that I would go to the two shows and that it was a great way not to think about work, which is pretty crazy right now!

No, that makes sense. I think I told the story of the kid in my workplace who doesn't watch AI but had heard of Adam. He hadn't heard of Kris, though. Yeah, I told you this. This was right after Kris won. When I showed him a picture of Kris he said, "He looks like us." That surprised him. But anyway, he hadn't heard of him.

You can't underestimate the power of name/face recognition, and RS and other things definitely helped Adam establish that.

So, Kris injured his face while surfing? Good job, buddy! You don't really want to have a plaster on your face, it always kind of looks weird. I guess Kris makes it work though, he's a ninja!

LOL at myself, I had written that I was going to see "Cool" live. I'm sure you both understood that I wanted to write Cook. With a k. The k is important, otherwise, it also looks weird. And I can't make it work. I'm not a ninja.

It was a weird day, can you tell? I'm going back home...

But if you can't market this then there is something seriously wrong with them. Just sayin'.

Really. He doesn't even need to sing.

He was surfing? Injured himself? The face??? Not the FACE!!!

Maybe it's good publicity...

This is how dumb I am. I knew you were referring to Cook, but I thought you were calling him "cool" on purpose. Did it occur to me you got one letter of his name wrong? NO!! Haha! Oh, well.

It sucks when Monday is a bad day at work. Hope you can relax tonight, and have a better day tomorrow.

I have to go home now...I'll check in (briefly) later, maybe...

...so, how did you know that that happened to Kris, missaddicted?

From the pictures that SleepinIn posted right before me. The captions say that he was shopping with his friends and that he had a plaster in the face because of a surfing injury.

ETA: Do you say plaster in English? Or only Band-Aid. We (wrongly) said plaster when speaking in French and I assumed it was an English word but maybe not...

LOL! As long as I don't start calling him Cookie. Seriously, a 26 year-old man doesn't need to be called Cookie. Some do it anyway.

It was actually a pretty good day! Just weird. I felt really hyper all day long. Like "talking too fast, doing three things at the same time, admitting to my friend that I was an AI fan" hyper. Maybe I'm already excited for Friday! And I'm not sure I'll get to relax before at least next week, I have way too many things to do!! And concerts, yay!

Oh a band-aid. I was wondering what a plaster was. I envisioned some kind of cast. lol

So Kris's friends were in LA? That's a good thing.

When you ETA your post I don't always catch it, SleepinIn. Just saw this. That's wild. I kind of have this old fashioned idea of the world. I don't picture them listening to rock in Bali.

I guess LLWD is much higher on the pop chart on iTunes than the overall chart. That made me feel a little more confident...bye for now...

LOL! Ok sorry for the use of the word "plaster". A band-aid. Why are we saying "plaster" in Québec then? I wonder where that came from... We should use the French word (pansement or diachylon, and yes diachylon is in the running for the ugliest word ever), then I wouldn't be confusing plaster and band-aid on an English board!

I totally got what you meant. The UK uses plaster too - I was born in Northern Ireland - But left when I was really young - but my Mom & Dad always use the term plaster.

Thanks for this! Now it makes sense that we use the term plaster.

I hope that LLWD will be in the Canadian iTunes store tonight (or at least tomorrow morning). I'll be pissed otherwise!

Ha! ME Too! We need to be able to buy it if other countries can. Dammit. At least I can buy Mad Men now on itunes - otherwise I'd be a really cranky person.
