It would appear that "people" amounts to 3 out of 13 votes on this thread. I guess the other ten would choose to have the child in that question I put above, live. I'm sorry, but the issue of foreign aid is not black and white.

I was going to say that I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you're in need of help like the people of Sudan or Afghanistan, but you never will be. You live in Canada and there will always be someone who will turn to you and offer their help. Too bad you can't bring yourself to do the same.

The thing that really ticks me off is that we don't just give out foreign aid. We let them immigrate to our country and ride the system for a year or two. The government sure as hell doesn't let Canadians ride the system for a year or two.

Are you kidding me?

Everyone has the right, in Canada, whether or not a citizen, to certain features of our society. No person can be denied health care within the capacity of the system, no person can be denied rights and freedoms, no person can be denied access to services within the law — do you suggest that new immigrants be some sort of "sub-class" of person, in Canada?

Immigrants get money from the government and a new car. I don't see the government giving us new cars.

Canadians who are on EI or welfare are forced to take job programs. The government tries to forced you off the system as soon as possible.

Immigrants coming to Canada should have to start their life from the bottom, like every other Canadian.

If you could please list a source for the amounts of money received by new immigrants from the Government of Canada, and statistics surrounding, and the circumstances underwhich this occurs, the issuing of new cars to immigrants, it would be very much appreciated.

So let me see, you want your taxes back, you want to stay on welfare, and you want a new car.
So we should reward you for being a selfish racist leech!
The only thing I'd give you is a kick in the ass, I'd probably loose my boot in there, but it would be worth it.
As a point of interest to you; besides the first nations, we're all immigrants.

I'm sorry but I can't find these statistics on the internet, so I guess that makes me kind of ignorant.

But I have seen with my own two eyes, immigrants who don't speak a word of English or French, driving their brand new cars, on their way to their new jobs.

I don't see our government giving us Canadians brand new cars and getting us jobs.

Maybe those "immigrants" have jobs, maybe they work real hard at saving money, maybe they bought that new car, maybe they're contributing more to this country than you are. Maybe they grew up with a work ethic and pride and honour. Maybe they're someone you should look up to and admire. Maybe they have a culture and language they're proud of. Maybe just maybe... they're thankful to be able to pay taxes.

(a) One of the two languages should, of course, be encouraged when immigrants register to come to Canada. However, as of now, the requirement for either of the languages isn't concrete and, therefore, in practice, neither language is required to immigrate. People pick it up pretty fast once they have come here, anyway.

(b) I would recommend that you drop by the Service Canada Web site at some point (click here to visit the site). The Job Bank feature is something that anyone in Canada can use — if the Government of Canada assists new immigrants in using this feature, then that's a good thing. Everything should use the resources that the Government gives us.

(c) I am not sure what to make of the "new car" suggestions you are making. Immigrants are, in many cases, required to have a certain amount of money before they can enter the country on a residence basis. Perhaps this amount of money is, more often than not, used to purchase a vehicle once that person has been accepted to enter Canada? I don't have much to comment on, in terms of this point, because I am unsure as to the facts and circumstances surrounding the assertion.

Its costing us more than a couple of bucks. Its going to cost hundreds of billions of dollars to help these countries.

Screw that!

and yet your the one who thinks our money would be better spent subsidizing the CBC, rather than providing aid and helping people from being slaughtered

I'm sorry what I think sickens you. But I want my tax dollars to be spend in Canada, not in Afghanistan or any other country for that matter. If they aren't going to be spent in Canada, then I want to keep them.

your dad is paying taxes, not you. Once you finish school and get a job then you can talk.....

Huh. Xenophobic nationalism... Classy.

Look bud, the only reason you have the ability to bitch about spending money on foriegn aid is because you were lucky enough to be born in a country that has so much money that this might possibly be an issue. Have some compassion for those that aren't so lucky.

So, because he doesn't make enough money to pay taxes, he doesn't have the right to make his voice heard? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that one doesn't have to own property to be eligable to vote anymore.
