Big first goal and the Canadians get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connor McDavid gets Canada on the board at just over eight minutes into the first.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...................................CANADA!

Man I love Canadian fans..........................YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

Thanks for sharing spam........you rock too.

End of 1rst: Canada ahead 1 zip. 2nd P will see a minute + of 4 on 4 while Marchand and one of the Fins sit in the penalty box for being general nuisances to the refs according to Glenn Healy.

I'd say the Canadians are holding their own so far. Really happy to see Connor get his first goal of the tourney - he's been deserving of that reward all tournament long - huge contributor to the team in so many ways. So smart and quick. Rock on Connor.

21 to 9 SOGs for Canada so far and they are about to get a PP.

That slashing penalty on Mark was bogus...........he was obviously going after the puck which was still loose.

2 SOGS for the Fins on that PP...........darn good thing we have good penalty killers and Talbot in the net.

End of 2nd still 1 zip Canada. It appears that not everyone on the team got the memo from the coach who said prior to the game that the players were going to stay out of the penalty box - that last bogus call aside. Maybe he will get through to them during this intermission cause we can't keep giving the Fins chances.

Team Canada deserved this win all the way...........they got the Fins on the ropes and never let up.

Hard way to lose a game (effectively 1-0).

I guess he beat the clock by a second because they awarded Canada with the empty netter........hey, we'll take it.

What a day for Connor.........scoring the winning goal for Canada and now the holder of a Junior Gold and a Men's Gold. Corey Perry the holder of 3 Gold Medals for Canada. Great day for Canadian fans and a great day for hockey in Canada.

Whoa..............Vlad turned up for the Medal presentation.

Yes, was by 0.9 seconds but by effectively I meant without the EN goal.

Ahhhhhhhh.........

Wish the cameras had been on the Canadian player's faces when Vlad appeared, apparently there was an audible gasp when he came to the podium and players on both sides were surprised.

Whoa Corey.....................a hug from Vlad...........bet you'll never forget that.

Canada will dominate world hockey with more regularity since we changed and eleminated the red line from our own game here in North America. It changes the whole mental dynamics, and use to be a huge habit hurdle to cross for our squad. Not any longer.

Go Canada go!!!

well, for this young team the tournament moved forward in a good way, firstly losing to finland set the table for 'revenge' in a good way, and as this tournament moved along the team improved, came together much
better 'as a team' than at the beginning. Talbot having played poorly against finland in the first
game, set the table for him to also redeem himself, which he did 'big time'.

So, when that game started, Canada was 'ready', with all of those thoughts in their minds, they came
out flying, and they also made sure they continued that play in the second period, which had been their
weak period throughout the tournament, but 'not this time'.

finland, on the other hand, had cruised right through, no particular hardships with the exception of the
first period against Russia, so they didn't really have the 'battle ready' energy to fight their way
to the finish, and really didn't expect Canada to bring that level of energy and team chemistry with
them, so finland was off balance for most of the game, Canada convincingly won the game, but the only
thing that made me a bit nervous was the score, should have been about 5 nothing, but only 1 nothing,
so anything could have happened, 'but it didn't', it finished just the way it should have, as Canada
was the better team all the way through.

congratulations Canada, well done.

I missed one of Connor's accomplishments, he also won Gold in the under-18 category - he is the youngest player ever to have won Gold at all three levels.

After watching Joe Thornton and Sidney Crosby battle each other in the Stanley Cup play-offs, it was pretty cool to see the big hug Joe gave Sid after the latter set him up for his first goal in this World Cup. It was 37-year-old Joe's first in international competition since the 2010 Olympics and the 4th of the game for Canada.

In the early going both teams showed lots of energy, some great passing and checking and multiple SOGs but as goals mounted up for the Canadians, the Czechs seemed to lose their momentum in the face of a continuous onslaught by our guys who rarely missed a step. If I have one complaint which I am sure is shared by Coach Mike Babcock, it is the lack of discipline by Team Canada. It didn't cost them in this game but could be a factor in the upcoming series.

Early in the game, Steven Stamkos set-up Captain Sidney Crosby who sent one in the net off the shoulder of Czech goalie Michal Neuvirth to put Canada on the board first. The Czech coach, as is his due by NHL rules, challenged interference on the play but the review came back in the Canadians favor. Canada's 2nd goal came off a fabulous shot off the point by Burns and tipped into the net by Brad Marchand. Brad got another assist as the period was winding down when he sent a cross-ice pass to Bergeron that found the back of the net with just seconds left in the period.

Jonathan Toews and Alex Pietrangelo each got a goal for Canada on separate PPs.

Carey Price in his first game back after months of recovery from an injury suffered last year, didn't miss a beat. His first pad save off a break-away by the Czech's left no doubt that Carey was back in top form. He stopped 27 SOGs by the Czechs in his first shut-out of the competition.

I'd say all the hype about this team was spot on as Team Canada looked sharp, quick, capable and energized.

Division rivals, the USA did not fare so well in their first outing going down 3 - zip to Team Europe. Tort's has some work to do before Team USA plays Team Canada on Tuesday.

LACE EM UP AND GO CANADA GO! :canada:

Thornton needs to shave off that duck-dynasty beard. It looks ridiculous.

If he keeps scoring goals for Canada, he can let it grow and it won't bother me a whit.

Team N America is leading the Fins 4 to 0 with 2:13 left in the 2nd P

Murray stopped 18 SOGS while Rinne stopped 31

Half-way through the 3rd P and Canada has a 4 - 1 lead over the US and are out-playing the Americans at almost every turn.
