Canada cuts aid to Palestinians

Canada just announced they will be cutting aid to the Palestinian authority. However, they will still give aid through the United Nations to the Palestinian people themselves. I thought this article was interesting because it kind of showed this new Conservative government in action. I still think it's a novelty:

An interesting turn of events.

So long as we are not cutting off the citizens where assistance is needed, and the aid is being cut to the Government of the Palestinian Authority exclusively, then I support the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P., the Member for Calgary Southwest and Prime Minister of Canada, in this decision.

I support him too. They are doing everything they can to promote PEACE. Of course it would go against the national mandate to support hamas who will not support peace. Helping the Palestinian people who need it is both humane and will do more towards peace than sanctions which will inevitably cause more violence.

The Bush administration refuses to acknowledge the root reasons for violence in Palestine--it's poverty!

Well you don't know then Eagle Smack that a sucicide bomber only occurs when there is nothing left in the world for a person. No chances and facing persecution, and that is what Palestinians faces.

So because they don't have a chance except throwing stones they strap on some dynamite and blow themselves up taking as many of the enemy in their eyes as possible.

Fact

50%= of Gaza is under poverty

Tens of thousands have been made homeless since ther last intifada.

3,500+ including hundreds of children have been killed by Israeli forces. Compared to 1,000 people.

Gaza is now a fenced off prison and Israel is stealing illegal land from the West Bank.

And because the palestinians don't have the nicities to have large weapons and Israel is being funded by America. I don't see how people decry suicide bombers in a hopeless situation.

Funny about the Tamil Tigers, they are a resistance group to the oppressive nature of the Sri Lankan government which dates back 50 years. However, the use of blackmail and other things should be cracked down upon in Canada if it is occuring within Toronto.

Pretty difficult for Harper to do since it has been going on for decades.

Harper has to pick his battles. That's what politics is about. It would be a political disaster if the Canadian government would state outright defiance of the American government. Israel/Palestine is a very touchy issue with the Americans. As a diplomatic nation, Canada has to find creative ways to go against American policy. This announcement by Harper was a very creative way of doing so.
