First of all let us stay on topic and for a moment I will take the liberty to step back from that.
NDP Governments have done quite well in this country over the decades but like any of the
rest they have had their difficulties.
Nova Scotia had a sixty million surplus in 2011 as they balanced their budget.
Manitoba has an NDP Government that people keep returning to office and its doing well.
Roy Romanow did very well in Saskatchewan in fact they had sixteen balanced budgets in a
row when they were in office.
Some of the other governments did not fair so well the BC Liberal Conservative coalition has
done a terrible job, we are in debt up to our eyeballs worse the the NDP ever did here in the
past.
Now to be on topic. I do believe the Minister went too far, in his comments about Israel. First
of all we have to have some objectivity here. No nation should unilaterally pledge support for
military action or agreement regardless of circumstance. We should be aware we do have an
alliance of sorts with Israel as most of the western powers are committed to the defence of
Israel that is just the way it is.
It should also be noted that all social conservative governments have a defence of Israel first
policy based on the religious terms of the Bible. Anyone ever heard of Christians for Zion?
Several social conservative denominations, are connected through this organization who will
defend Israel to the end for one great reason. here is the thought process of this one as I had
it explained to me. No I don't agree with it i just want to relate it to you.
If we defend Israel in the end times, the world will come to conflict and the Jews will be attacked
by the Arabs, the Russian Bear and the Dragon. Just as the end of the world is coming Christ
will evoke the Rapture and those who are saved will be lifted up and the rest will parish.
At that point Christ will return and bring his faithful home to a restored earth and rule the world
for a thousand years. blah blah blah.
Personally I want some of what these people are smoking but that is it boiled down into a nut shell.

I agree we must be aware of what is happening ant the dangers of the Middle East and we would
be dragged into a conflict there in any case but to suggest we are going to be on the front lines
and be out in front of the Israelis is pure nonsense. First we would have to hitch a ride with the
Americans to get us there.
Remember John Baird made these statements not the NDP and debate is cheap talk on both sides
of the House. Most of the statements were window dressing anyway and Baird was really mugging
for the camera's. Hollow words are hollow words regardless. and will be forgotten in a week

I suspect that if Tommy Douglas were alive today.....he would be an ex-Reformer, and part of the Conservative Party.

Tommy's success was in grass-roots prairie populism.......

Tommy thought homosexuals were mentally ill.

Tommy believed in fiscal responsibility.

Tommy was minister of a fundamentalist Christian church, and a strong believer. His politics were based in Christian concern for people..

Tommy was a boxer.

Tommy shared rural, not urban, sensibilities.

I voted for Tommy Douglas's NDP, albeit after Tommy was gone..

The NDP today is NOT the same animal, not even the same species.

A lot of us tried that route and what did we get for our troubles - BOB RAE! Sheesh.

Yep, and have Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan had people flocking there for years to take advantage of the job boom that their " budget balanced mostly by transfer payments" created?
Stay on topic? A poster bashes one particular political party relentlessly and gets a free pass, uh ok, sorry.

Saskatchewan is a prime case of where the NDP had to clean up a huge mess left
behind by Grant Divine and his conservatives. He spent the 3.5 billion Alan Blakeney
left in surplus, plus another 20 plus billion. Took Roy Romanow years to undo the
damage. As for Nova Scotia, they had decades of debt piled up by both the Tories
and the Liberals. Seems no one wanted to pay for power and other services. The
present government has in fact balanced things out and it cuts deep. But Nova
Scotia is experiencing some growth and things are going to turn around hopefully
now that they are no longer running up deficits.
There have been times when the NDP got off on the wrong road as many other
governments have at times. Currently Ontario is a case of serious concern. Our
Federal Government has put us back into the same mess we were in when Paul
Martin did his slash and burn to get us out of the financial mess the Conservatives
put us in. Both the Mulroney Government and this one have created more debt and
deficit than any other.
I don't think the NDP is perfect but they are no better and no worse than the rest when
you stack the chips up and take a serious look at the actions of government. Some
governments concentrate on tax cuts and postponing the payment and investment of
infrastructure and others put more dollars into social programs. I think governments of
all stripes have to learn a more practical balance of the interests of Canadians at all
levels.
