Hmmmm, interesting that these men aren't engaging a law suit against the Egyptians or Syrians, you know, the folks that performed the alleged torture?

BTW - The UN is as useless as tits on a bull. Nothing they say, let alone recommend, should be recognized or taken seriously.

We seem to get our shirts in knots when criticized. Perhaps the criticism is warranted. Are Vic Toews and his fellow travellers paragons of virtue protecting us from devils and evil-doing denizens?

Could be. But we don't know who is doing the criticizing. Perhaps they have an agenda of their own that conflicts with ours.

Criticized?

How about the recognition of the actual torture (if in fact it occurred) be assessed to those that did it?

As far as Toews is concerned, well, it's been a while since I heard of young Canadian girls having acid thrown in their faces for having the audacity to attend school... So, yeah, I suppose that he's done a stand-up job on that account

What is our agenda? You have put your finger on the sore spot!

Not sure about yours but mine is to keep Canadians safe and prosperous. If that means not entitling none citizens to the same rights as citizens I'm OK with that. But I also think that the rules should be clearly defined and adhered to.

Are you saying that the men that elected to travel to an outside nation are not subject to their laws? As Canadians, they are exempt from the laws in the nation's in which they travel?

Dear Shirt-in-a knot,

Are you suggesting the following:
If our nationals are aiding a foreign ally and its laws permit torture or acid, we should apply the tough-sh't rule? Torture schmorture?

As always,
Your friend Spade

Dear It's-Always-Canada's-Fault-and-Never-Should-We-Worry-About-Personal-Responsibility,

Yes. I am saying that if you, as a visitor to a foreign nation and willfully break the law (or are suspected of such), don't come crying to me that the facilities and treatment weren't up to the high standards you expect.

What's next, sue the Canadian Feds because Egypt doesn't have signage in both English and French?

Best Regards,

Shirt-In-A-Knot

Ah, finally the voice of sober reason. Thank Keericed that the crazies are still slumbering.

Time to repeal the anti-slavery laws, Colpy?

Yeah, screw the UN, and when the rest of the world starts thinking about us as badly as they do about the US, we can stick our head in the sand, act like we didn't see it coming, learn Spanish, and wear the Mexican flag on our backpacks when we go abroad.
